GUIDELINES FOR THE RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION

As Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of the Mass when we receive Holy Communion, the true Body and Blood of the Lord. Yet, we

Catholics should receive Holy Communion only when we are living in communion with the Catholic Church and in the state of sanctifying grace and have made the appropriate fast from food and drink. Because of the connection we draw between being in full communion with the Catholic Church and receiving Holy Communion, we cannot invite those who are not Catholic to share in Holy Communion with us. Still, we welcome all to this celebration of the Mass as our brothers and sisters, and pray that our common baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit will one day draw us closer “…that all may be

one.” (John 17:22)

St. Andrew Parish, a Roman Catholic community, seeks to nurture the

faith and serve the needs of parishioners and visitors by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ

through active stewardship, ministries of word and sacrament, programs of Christian formation, and

works of charity and justice.

The parishioners of St. Andrew Catholic Church are happy to extend a warm welcome to the many visitors who join us for worship today.

WELCOME ORDER OF WORSHIP

Farewell Party for Rev. Msgr. James L. LeBlanc

Where: Community Life Center When: Sunday, February 26, 2017 Time: 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM

We hope to see you there!

Dear St. Andrew Family, I was pleased and honored to witness the ceremo-ny bestowing Papal Honors on Father LeBlanc that was held in Charleston. I have never been at a Vespers Service in the Cathedral, and I certainly have never witnessed the presentation of Papal Honors with the title of Monsignor bestowed upon a priest. The attendees from St. Andrew were quite proud of Father LeBlanc! The ceremony was beautiful, as was the reception at the Diocesan Pastoral Center afterward. Thank you Monsignor LeBlanc for your faithful service to our Church and School. You will be missed by our students and faculty! May God Bless you in your new appoint-ment. Warmly, Debbie Wilfong, Principal

Assisted Suicide: Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys have filed suit in federal court against medical licensing authorities in Vermont on behalf of health care profes-sionals who wish to abide by their oath to “do no harm”. The state agencies are con-struing Vermont’s assisted suicide law as requiring them, regardless of their con-science or oath, to counsel patients on doctor-prescribed death as an op-tion. (adflegal.org, 7/26/16) Judges in Belgium have ordered a Catholic nursing home to pay a fine and dam-

ages to a family for refusing to allow a fatal injection for a patient. A report said the judges found St. Augustine Nursing Home “had no right to refuse euthanasia on the basis of conscientious objection.” In Oregon, between 2014-2015, assisted suicide deaths rose by 80%. (wnd.com, 7/21/16) A young Philadelphia woman was put into hospice without a medical basis and purposefully de-prived of nutrition after being moved out of ICU to a step-down floor following hospitalization for cardiac arrest in mid-April. Her boyfriend contacted Life Legal Defense Foundation (LLDF) for intervention. “This person who I love dearly was being killed.” A lessening respect for the health of the medically vulnerable and elderly is a sign of the times in healthcare, with their care having become more expensive, said an LLDF attorney. “It’s appalling. It’s bar-baric. People need to know this sort of thing is going on.” (lifesitenews.com, 8/2/16; crossmap.com, 8/2/16)

“FOR OUR STRUGGLE IS NOT WITH FLESH AND BLOOD BUT WITH THE PRINCIPALITIES, WITH THE

POWERS, WITH THE WORLD RULERS OF THIS PRESENT DARKNESS,” EPHESIANS 6:12

“Cardinal O’Connor preached most powerfully by his example the necessity of seeing in every human being, from the first moment of conception to the last moment of natural death and every moment in between… the image of a god to be loved and served. What a great legacy he has left us in his constant reminder that the Church must be always unambiguously Pro-Life.”

~ Cardinal Bernard Law, in his homily delivered at the

funeral of New York’s Cardinal John O’Connor

WORD OF LIFE

A woman's right to "choose"? The word "choice" (as used on the subject of abortion) is probably the most misleading and decep-tive term in the English language. While it might sound good to say that government should allow people to make all their own choic-es, that is neither practical nor desirable. Some choices are crimes. All crimes are choices. Once a woman is pregnant, barring a miscarriage or an induced abortion, she will have a baby. Therefore, her only "choice" is, "How is the baby going to come out?" Will he or she come out alive and crying, or dead and in pieces? Truly, her choice is between life and death---a live baby, or a dead one. Consider this hypothetical situation. A group of young men have just started a "Right to Rape" or-ganization. They argue that they have the right to choose to rape women. The real question, they tell us, is, "Who decides, us or the government? We believe that the government should stay out of this very private matter." Furthermore, they want the state to set up tax-funded centers where they can rape women in a safe, legal fashion. Clearly, our response would be, "Absolutely not; rape is wrong!" Note carefully that the real and overriding question is not, "who decides" but a question about the action itself. We must first ask ourselves, "Is rape right or wrong?" Only then can we answer the question of who has the right to choose to do it. And so it is with abortion. No one should have the "right to choose" abortion because it involves taking the life of a separate, innocent human being and is therefore an atrocity.

PRO-LIFE ANSWERS TO FALSE PRO-CHOICE ARGUMENTS PART 2

PARISH MINISTRY CONTACTS CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

Big News: the Catechism of the Catholic Church is back in the Pews! 7,534 went home already! One of the greatest achievements of Pope John Paul II was the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This Catechism will serve as the standard for all future catechisms. “A sure norm for teaching the Faith”, as the Pope said.

Please take and study this Catechism in your own home.

This Catechism costs $5.00 each. Inside the front cover of each book you will find an ENVELOPE as follows:

Dear Sister or Brother in Christ: This Catechism of the Catholic Church is a most handy summary of the Faith that we profess as Christians. We hope you will take it to your home and read it. We would thank you for helping out with the costs of this ministry - at $5.00 for each copy of this Catechism - if you are able to donate that amount (or more, or less) by placing your donation in this envelope and then into the collection basket. Be blessed in the study of your Catechism.

Contact phone numbers are for parish use only.

LA IGLESIA CATÓLICA DE SAN ANDRÉS

Respuestas Pro-Vida a falsos argumentos Pro-Elección. (parte 2)
