WELCOME TO MYTONIDO FOR BLACKBERRY PLAYBOOK

This guide will help you set up MyTonido for your Blackberry Playbook.

ABOUT MYTONIDO

MyTonido is developed and supported independently of CodeLathe LLC, the

owner and copyright holder of TonidoTM, TonidoPlugTM and the Tonido logo – it is

not sponsored by or affiliated with CodeLathe LLC, but the Tonido logo is used

by permission.

ABOUT TONIDOTM

Tonido allows full time unlimited access to your data residing in your computer.

So, whether you want to access your documents, listen to music, watch videos,

view photos or upload and download files to your computer, this guide will show

you how to get started.

Step 1: Download the latest Tonido for your Operating System or Buy

TonidoPlug.

Step 2: Install Tonido and create an account. Note that the account allows access

only to your computer and your data is never stored in the cloud (No caching and

such).

SETUP REQUIREMENTS

1. Tonido server version 2.28 or higher running in Windows, Linux or Mac or

Tonido enabled devices such as TonidoPlug.

NOTE: For full documentation of Tonido features including setup help, please

visit the help link.

2. Blackberry Playbook running OS 2.0.0 or newer.

3. WiFi connection to the network.

GETTING STARTED

Once you have a Tonido server running, you can access all your photos, music, or

movies using a web browser from anywhere. In addition to that, you can now

access your data using MyTonido on your Blackberry Playbook.

When MyTonido has verified the connection to your Tonido Server, you will be

presented with the User Validation screen:

1. Enter your Tonido Account or User Name.

2. Enter the Password for the Account.

3. Touch the OK button.

If you have setup "Remote Login Qn" and "Remote Login Ans" in your Tonido

account, and WAN access is used, MyTonido will present another dialog to

further ensure your identity:

Each time MyTonido starts up, it will login automatically to the most recently

used stored profile and then, navigate to the last directory displayed using that

profile.

To select a profile, simply touch the MyTonido WiFi icon (it is small enough that

you are unlikely to touch it by mistake, but it CAN be touched). Once selected,

the URL Selection dialog is presented:

1. The default selection: allows you to specify a new Tonido Server URL,

3. Select one of the existing entries in the list and then:

1. Upload: MyTonido will present the native Playbook file selection dialog,

allowing you to select one or more files on your Playbook to be uploaded to

the currently displayed Tonido Server folder – in the example shown,

“TonidoSyncData”.

2. Download: MyTonido will add the selected item to the download queue, where

it will be downloaded in sequence.

a. If the selected item is a file, it will be downloaded and moved to the

appropriate location for the file type:

i. Images: “shared/photos”

ii. Music: “shared/music”

iii. Video: “shared/videos”

iv. Other: “shared/downloads”

b. If the selected item is a folder and if it is less than 500 MB, it will be

compressed on the Tonido Server, downloaded and uncompressed on

your Playbook. The new folder will be created in the Playbook’s

“shared/downloads” folder. Folders larger than 500 MB cannot be

downloaded.

1. Add to (or Remove from) My Favorites: You can easily access frequently used

files or folders by adding them to your Favorites list.

Once added, you can navigate directly to them by selecting “My Favorites”

from the left-side panel.

2. Create a new Folder: The new Folder will be created in the currently displayed

folder.

3. Delete a file or folder: The selected item will be deleted permanently from the

Tonido Server.

5. Share the file or folder: Tonido allows you to share files or folders by creating a

publicly accessible link to the shared items. MyTonido makes it easy to send

these links to your friends using the native Playbook email client:

c. When Tonido responds with the link to the shared item, a menu of

choices will be displayed:

You can create a list of links to be shared on the Clipboard by first

selecting “Add to New”, then “Add to Current” and finally (if you want

to send the list to someone), “eMail”. MyTonido will display a message

in the lower right-side status bar showing the number of items on the

Clipboard.

Note: If fewer than about five shared items are placed on the Clipboard, the list of

links will be added to the email body automatically. Otherwise, you will need to

“paste” the list into the email yourself when the email client appears. (This is

because the method used to invoke the email client limits the amount of data that

can be included).



VIEWING PHOTOS

You can simply download images from your Tonido Server to your Playbook and

then use the native Playbook viewer:

1. First, select an entry representing a viewable image. Then, simply touch the

Open button to both download the image to the Playbook’s “shared/photos”

directory and open it in the native Playbook Pictures viewer, or…

2. You could also touch the Download button to initiate a manual download.

Then, either launch the native Playbook Pictures viewer yourself, or…

3. Select “My Downloads” from the left-side panel:

4. When the file has been downloaded, select the entry’s open button in “My

Downloads” to open it using the appropriate native Playbook application – in

this case, the Pictures viewer.

Note: The open button will only appear for downloaded files with supported filename

extensions – e.g. “.jpg”, “.xls”, “.pdf” etc.

Although the native viewer is nice, there are some disadvantages:

1. You need to navigate back and forth between the applications and,

2. Eventually, you will fill the available storage on the Playbook and need

to delete some images.

Instead, you can view them directly from MyTonido - simply touch one of the

entry’s thumbnail icon:

You can then touch one of the images in the list to display it in a scrollable list of

full-size images:



To scroll the list, drag the image horizontally to the left or right.

To close the full-size image list, simply swipe it vertically towards the bottom of

the screen.

Tip: To speed up loading, you can instruct Tonido to pre-generate images: In Tonido

Explorer, select a folder’s “Actions” menu, then select “Prepare Media”.

PLAYING MUSIC

As with images, music files can be downloaded and played with the native

Playbook music player. The process is exactly the same so doesn’t bear

repeating here.

MyTonido’s music player also allows you to listen to music formats that are not

supported by the native Playbook player (e.g. flac, Apple Lossless) by using the

Tonido Server’s transcoding ability.

Note: When playing a transcoded music track, the player’s seek bar control and duration are

disabled because the Tonido Server generates the audio data “on-the-fly” – it is not actually

stored in a file, so it’s not possible to jump to an arbitrary position in the track.

iTUNES PLAYLISTS

If you use your Tonido Server as your primary iTunes storage or even if you just

use it to backup your iTunes files, you can import your iTunes playlists into

MyTonido and play them. Details can be found below, in Options, iTunes

Integration.

PLAYING VIDEOS

Like image and music files, video files can be downloaded and played with the

native Playbook video player or played within MyTonido itself. The process is

exactly the same as for images and music.

1. To launch the MyTonido video player, simply touch the video icon button for

the selected file.

Playbook and disappears after about 3.5 seconds.

iTunes Integration

Use this screen to import your iTunes Playlists:

First, navigate to your iTunes music folder, then activate the Options dialog and

select “iTunes” from the left hand menu:

1. Switch the “Import iTunes Playlists” toggle button to “On”. If the “iTunes

Folder” text field is empty, MyTonido will enter the currently displayed folder

name into the text field.

2. If you did not previously navigate to the correct iTunes folder, you can clear

the text field and type in the correct location (tap the text field to display the

virtual keyboard).

3. Once a folder location is displayed, the “Import Now” button will be enabled

(along with the “Save” and “Cancel” buttons).

Select “Import Now” to begin downloading the iTunes Library file – if the file is

found in the specified folder, you will see a progress bar until the complete file

has been retrieved, then a status message indicating that the file is being

processed.

If the file is not found in the specified directory, an error message will be

displayed.

Depending on the size of your iTunes library, processing may take several

minutes – if you close or select a different Options item, the changes will not be

saved.

When the file has been processed, you will see a status message indicating the

number of playlists imported. The playlists will now be stored as part of your

profile so you will only need to re-import if you make changes to the playlists in

iTunes.

You can browse the imported playlists by selecting “My Playlists” from the main

My Tonido left-side panel.

System Status

This screen displays some details about your Tonido Server.

Logs

This screen displays a list of diagnostic messages related to network events. If

you are having trouble connecting to your Tonido Server:

• First: read the Troubleshooting section below,

• Then: read the Troubleshooting section below.

TROUBLESHOOTING

This section gives some ideas for solving common connection issues.

If MyTonido can’t connect to your Tonido Server, the first step is to start the

Playbook browser and try connecting using the server’s public URL:



1. If the browser can’t connect, either the URL is incorrect or your Tonido

Server isn’t available: from the Playbook browser, navigate to:

Then, select the “Connect To” link.

2. If the browser can connect using the same URL that you entered in

MyTonido, AND you are connected to the same LAN as the Tonido Server,

set the “Connect Via” Setting to “WAN” and try again.

3. Check the “Logs” in the Options dialog:

indicates that a request to the given URL took too long to respond, or

returned an unacceptable HTTP response – e.g. 404.

b. When an acceptable HTTP response is returned, the log will contain the

entry:

MyTonido will automatically re-attempt to validate the URL and login

whenever the network interface changes.
