Objectives

- Timeline: Approximately 42 months

- Target group: Smallholder farming households

Objectives:1. To begin to build Mozambique’s dairy herd and industry to

meet the market demand;

2. To increase incomes for smallholder farmers through participation in a sustainable dairy value chain, and;

3. To increase crop yields through utilization of draft animals

for cultivation.

Specific Objectives & Activities

- Herd Restocking: access dairy cattle for Manica province to rebuild the national herd

- Fodder Crop and Pasture Management: training/capacity building, seed multiplication & distribution

- Animal Husbandry: training/capacity building and support development of animal health services

- Milk Collection and Marketing: assist to establish producer-level cooperatives, milk collection centers and generic marketing campaign focus on youth

- Animal Traction: smallholder capacity building and artisan training

Achievement to Date (18 Months)

- Capacity building in dairy husbandry & animal traction: over 500 households (1094 individuals) under training

- 151 households have entered dairy value chain

- 2 Co-ops formed, 12 associations being registered

- Constructed & equipped 2 MCC’s

- Launched marketing campaign – Media/shows
