The KCS Sports ForumVolleyball Tournamentwill be on July 10th at12pm at the FeldmanRecreation Center locatedat 8800 West Kathy Lanein Niles.There will be
tournaments for the middle schoolersand high schoolers and up. For themiddle schoolers team, the players canbe mixed between boys and girls. Thehigh school and up will be for boys.The registration starts at 11:30 am andthe fee will be $10.00 for each player.Champions and Runner Ups for the high
Volleyball Tournament July 10thschool and will receive cash prizes andTrophy. The Middle School Championand Runner Ups will receive trophies.Registering to be a part of a team is verysimple. Just show up and register, youwill be placed onto a team. Ms. Phylicia Viruthikulangara isagifted and talented member of theChicago Knanaya community withstrong Christian values.Shegraduated from Whitney M.
Young Magnet High School, a selective enrollment high school in Chicagowhich ranks #3 in the state of Illinois. She finished high school as the 2016class Salutatorian with a5.22 weighted GPA andscored a 34on the ACT. Phyliciais both an AP Scholar and an Illinois State Scholar. In addition, Phylicia servedas the service project coordinator of the National Honor Society at her school.In the midst of her busy academic, athletic and social activities, Phylicia
completed her Arangetram in Bharatanatyam with Soorya Dance School (SDS) and since then,she works as an assistant dance instructor for SDS. Phylicia’s hard work and incredible workethic led her to gain admission into the Guaranteed Professional Program in Medicine (GPPA) atUniversity of Illinois at Chicago.
Phylicia’s accomplishments began when she served as the Junior High class president atEdison Regional Gifted School. In high school, she founded and led the South Asian StudentAssociation (SASA) as a way to bring her Indian culture to her school community. ThroughSASA, she taught Indian dance that was showcased in her high school’s Asian AmericanAsian AmericanAsian AmericanAsian AmericanAsian AmericanShowShowShowShowShow every year. She was also a member of her high school’s Poms hip-hop dance team thatwon the State Championship in 2015 and won multiple city championships. Outside of school,she volunteered as an assistant dance instructor for Everybody Dance Now! (EDN!), a non-profitorganization that provides free, weekly dance classes to Chicago’s underserved youth. Sheorganized a dance workshop that donated all profits to EDN! During the summer, she performedcancer related research in oncofertility at Northwestern UniversityNorthwestern UniversityNorthwestern UniversityNorthwestern UniversityNorthwestern University ’s W’s W’s W’s W’s Woodruff Laboodruff Laboodruff Laboodruff Laboodruff Lab underthe guidance of Dr. So-Youn Kim. She also participated in an internship with the Indo-AmericanDemocratic Organization. Moreover, Phylicia has played an active role in the Knanaya communityby participating in Kids clubs, KCJL, KCYL and receiving awards in annual KCS dance competitionsand KCCNA conventions. She also volunteers weekly as a Religious Education teacher at St.Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Church.
Phylicia is the daughter of Thomas Viruthikulangara, supervisor at US Postal Service, andGirley Viruthikulangara, civil engineer for the City of Chicago Water Department. She is thesister of Dr. Gathi Abraham, a Northwestern University medical graduate and resident at GeorgeWashington University, Dr. Geethi Abraham, a University of Illinois at Chicago medical graduateand resident at Northwestern, and Philip Abraham, a junior at Yale University, a top Ivy Leagueschool.
Phylicia plans to pursue a career as a physician who serves underserved communities, allthe while being an active member of Knanaya community by teaching dance and ReligiousEducation.

It was steaming hot on June 11 inChicago as well inside the gym of theGolf Main Park District. The giganticAC vents weren’t big enough to keepcool inside the gym. It was all due tothe astonishing basketball gamesthat were taking place in the gym.At the end, the team No Mercyearned the win over teamFBOB.Sports Forum Chairman ShijuCheriyathil Inaugurated thetournament , handing over thegameball to KCYL President ShawnMullappallil.
The KCS Sports Forum and KCYLhave joined together to make anothersuccessful story for the game ofbasketball. There were competitions
gratitude goes out to KCYLexecutives for all the hard workthey’ve done for the success of thisevent especially the president,Shawn Mullapally, for hisdedication and determination.
