Background
3
NOAA/NESDIS is starting the pre-formulation of Next-Gen space architecture (for LEO and GEO-XO: Post JPSS and GOES programs) 2030-2040 Time frame
SAT was established (in May 2019) to provide authoritative scientific support and performance assessment to help NESDIS in these efforts With wide-ranging participation (from users, DoD, NASA, Academia, intern. Partners)
SAT must have wide science expertise to be able to support different sensors categories: MW, IR, UV, Passive, Active, Lightning, SpWx, etc. Other expertise needed: Users needs, Impact assessment, DA, technology, etc.
First Focus of SAT is to support SounderSAT (Sounders satellites) - to be demonstrated in parallel to JPSS- and GEO-XO Other LEO configurations expected in the future: 3D winds, MW imagers, etc.
Goal of presentation is (1) promote awareness (2) welcome feedback and participation from community of satellite experts and data users

Single-focused Advocacy is fine. But the overall objective is to provide an overall recommendation that accounts for all facets of the problem at hand.

Conclusions / Call for Community Feedbacks
13
NOAA initiated pre-formulation of next-Gen Operational Space architecture. BAAs to be issued (SounderSAT / GEO-XO) next week Objective: Seeking studies for new-gen Sounders
SAT is aimed at accompanying this phase by providing science support for the conceptual design of sensors, systems, etc This requires access to wide-ranging expertise for a sound formulation
Current Activities are focused on Sounders constellation For LEO mainly: from IR, MW and RO types of sensors
Sounding is viewed as going beyond Temperature and Moisture It should include Wind profile for example.
Additional Concept missions will be studied going forward Wind profiling, IR imager, Microwave Imager, Precipitation, OSVW, etc
Thinking about Operational Space Architecture of the future is Now Feedbacks, inputs, collaboration and community participation, all welcome
