Enabling the .NET Framework to work with IIS

When configuring IIS for the first time on a Windows 2003 / 2008 Server, the .NET Framework is not enabled by default, even though it may be installed. Instructions to check & bind .NET 4.0 with IIS are available in section 6.1.2 & 6.1.3. These instructions assume:

Windows Server 2003 / 2008 is installed

Microsoft® .NET Framework version 4.0 is installed, but not enabled

ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 is installed

If there are any issues with completing these steps, please contact Thomson Reuters Technical Support.

2.1.2.4 Check Web Service Extensions

1. Open the Internet Information Services Manager and open the Web Services Extensions folder for the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax Web Server. Please refer to the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax System Requirements on the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax installation CD for installation and configuration options for the Web Server and operating system.

2.1.3 Windows/SQL Server Administrator Accounts

To proceed with the ONESOURCE installation, you will need the login and password details for the following accounts:

A Windows user account that has administrative rights to the Web Server;

A SQL Server user account that has permissions to create new users, new databases and new tables (note that this must be a SQL Server account and not just a Windows account with access to the SQL server).

NOTE: These Administrator accounts are used temporarily during the installation process. The login and password details are not retained by ONESOURCE Corporate Tax after installation.

2.1.4 ONESOURCE Corporate Tax Administrator Accounts

During the ONESOURCE installation process, the following ONESOURCE Administrator Accounts will be created:

ONESOURCE System Administrator Account;

ONESOURCE Database Administrator Account.

NOTE: The ONESOURCE System Administrator is granted full access to the ONESOURCE system, including sensitive tax and financial data for your organisation. It is strongly recommended that you choose a secure password for the System Administrator and restrict access to authorised personnel.

Details of the ONESOURCE System Administrator account password should be recorded and kept in a safe location for future reference.

2.1.5 Installation files

The installation of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 requires approximately 150MB of hard disk space on the Web Server and an initial 5MB of hard disk space on the Database Server. The Database Server will require additional disk space to store business data for your organisation.

Please refer to the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax System Requirements document for guidelines on Database Server disk space requirements for your organisation’s size and structure.

2.1.5.1 Web Server

ONESOURCE Installation will install the following on the Web Server:

ONESOURCE Corporate Tax application files, including web interface files, application executables, JavaScript files and image files;

ONESOURCE Corporate Tax utilities;

Microsoft® Report Client runtime files;

Virtual directories for the ONESOURCE application

2.2 Upgrade Installations

2.2.1.1 Upgrading from previous versions

The tax system and tax legislation is constantly changing therefore it is important to keep your installation of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax up to date. New versions of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax are typically produced twice a year.

To ensure accurate transfer of tax information it is necessary to upgrade ONESOURCE Corporate Tax through every release. Information on how to perform this task is on every ONESOURCE Corporate Tax installation disk for that version.

The upgrade process will only upgrade from the previous version of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax. This means that the upgrade to ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 can only occur from an ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2014.1 installation

2.2.1.2 Changes to the technology environment

There have been service packs released by Microsoft® to correct faults and security flaws in the Operating System that ONESOURCE Corporate Tax uses. It may be an opportunity to refresh these systems with service packs from Microsoft® before performing the upgrade to ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1.

If you are upgrading major system components such as Operating Systems or SQL Server you should treat this upgrade as a new installation and refer to section 2.1 New Installations.

Remember to backup your ONESOURCE Corporate Tax Database before performing any system upgrades. ONESOURCE Corporate Tax keeps all information in the Database file on the SQL Server. You only need to back up this data as the Web Server does not store any data and only contains the ONESOURCE binary files.

2.2.1.3 Changes to the System Requirements

The ONESOURCE Corporate Tax System Requirements that are supplied on the accompanying CD specify the software and hardware platform for new installations. The ONESOURCE Corporate Tax System Requirements that are relevant for your installation are those that were supplied with your current licence agreement and will remain in force until this agreement expires.

2.2.2 Windows/SQL Server Administrator Accounts

To proceed with the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax upgrade, you will need the login and password details for the following accounts:

A Windows user account that has administrative rights to the Web Server;

A SQL Server user account that has permissions to create new users, new Databases and new tables (note that this must be a SQL Server account and not just a Windows account with access to the SQL server).

NOTE: These Administrator accounts are used temporarily during the installation process. The login and password details are not retained by ONESOURCE after installation.

Page 11: N-ABLE 2010.1 Install Guide - Thomson Reutersdownloads.tsg.thomsonreuters.com.au/N-ABLE/2015/ONESOURCE...2.1.5 Installation files. The installation of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1

11 of 51

2.2.3 Installation files

The upgrade of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 requires approximately 150MB of hard disk space, plus the current size of the database (for temporary storage) on the Web Server and 3.5 times the current ONESOURCE Corporate Tax Database size on the Database Server. The upgrade process copies & then upgrades the current Database leaving both databases operational. TIP: After performing the upgrade to a new version of ONESOURCE it is recommended that the previous installation is left on the Web Server to allow for comparison and review purposes. Older versions previous to ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2014.1 can be archived and deleted after permission is granted from your Tax Administrator. For more information on deleting versions of N-ABLE please refer to section 8 - MAINTAINING AN ONESOURCE INSTALLATION.

Please refer to the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax System Requirements document for guidelines on Database Server disk space requirements for your organisation’s size and structure.

2.2.3.1 Web Server

ONESOURCE Corporate Tax Installation will install the following on the Web Server:

Updated ONESOURCE Corporate Tax application files, including web interface files, application executables, JavaScript files and image files;

ONESOURCE Corporate Tax utilities;

Microsoft® Report Client runtime files;

New Virtual directories for the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax application.

2.2.3.2 Database Server

ONESOURCE Installation will install the following on the Database Server:

A ONESOURCE Corporate Tax SQL Server Database containing data upgraded from the previous version.

During the upgrade of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax from one version to the next a backup

of the database is created on the C: drive of the database server. The file is named AllumeTempBackup.bak, is a hidden file and by default is created in the C:\Documents

and Settings\All Users\Application Data folder. This file will be similar in size to the size of the actual database and on some infrastructure the C: drive may not have sufficient

space for this file to be created.

The steps to change the default location where this file is created are: Make a copy of the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax installation CD to a location on the

application server. Open the Setup.exe.config file with Notepad.

The third to last line is: <add key="TempDBLocation" value="" />. Enter the

required location for the AllumeTempBackup.bak file in the value=”” section of

the line. e.g. to direct the AllumeTempBackup.bak file to be created in the

D:\TempDBbackup folder (on the database server) the line would be edited to appear as:

<add key="TempDBLocation" value="D:\TempDBbackup" />.

Save the modification. It is also necessary to manually create the required folder on the database server

before beginning the upgrade process. The folder will not be automatically created.

e.g. through Windows explorer manually create the D:\TempDBbackup folder. There is a requirement to ensure the IIS_USR has full access to this folder.

Once the upgrade is complete go to the defined folder and manually delete the

AllumeTempBackup.bak file, it will not be automatically deleted.

e.g. delete the AllumeTempBackup.bak file from the D:\TempDBbackup

folder.

5 UPGRADING FROM ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2014.1

This section provides instructions for upgrading from ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2014.1 to ONESOURCE 2015.1. After you have upgraded from ONESOURCE 2014.1 to ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 there will be two installations on the Web Server; the original version of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2014.1 and the new installation of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 with a copy of the original data. The upgrade process automatically installs the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 application.

5.1 Preparation for upgrade

Before undertaking an upgrade of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2014.1 to ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1, please note the following:

You must upgrade to ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 on the same Web Server as that used for ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2014.1.

It is recommended that the current ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2014.1 Database is backed up. See Section 9 -DATABASE MAINTENANCE.

Resize the database to accommodate the upgrade. Allocating enough disk space will ensure that the upgrade will not fail at a later stage due to insufficient disk space or because SQL Server takes too long to resize the database. See 5.1.1 Resize the Database for instructions on how to resize the database.

If the Database Server is located on the same server as the Web Server, you must use a fixed memory size for the SQL Server software. This will prevent SQL Server from allocating too much memory during the upgrade process; this prevents the upgrade process from being able to obtain sufficient memory and can cause the upgrade process to fail. If the SQL Server software is located on another server, you can skip this step. See 5.1.2 Set a fixed SQL Server memory size for instructions on how to do this.

5.1.1 Resize the Database

To resize the database on SQL Server 2005, open SQL Server Enterprise Manager, right-click on the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2014.1 database and choose Properties. Click on the “Files” page and change the “Initial Sized (MB)” to twice the current size. Move to the “Transaction Log” underneath and change the “initial Size (MB)” to the original space allocated for the data file.

NOTE: At the end of the upgrade process, you can remove the unused space by compacting the 2014.1 and 2015.1 databases.

5.1.2 Set a fixed SQL Server memory size

To set a fixed memory size, open SQL Server Enterprise Manager, right click on the server instance and choose Properties. Click on the Memory page and allocate no more than 1/2 of the physical RAM installed on the machine using the Minimum server memory (in MB) and Maximum server memory (in MB).

Page 19: N-ABLE 2010.1 Install Guide - Thomson Reutersdownloads.tsg.thomsonreuters.com.au/N-ABLE/2015/ONESOURCE...2.1.5 Installation files. The installation of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1

19 of 51

NOTE: At the end of the upgrade process, change the memory setting back to the original settings if required.

5.1.3 Lock User Access

The upgrade from ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2014.1 to ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 may take a number of hours, depending on how much business data is in your ONESOURCE Corporate Tax installation, during which you should prevent all users from accessing either version of the application. We recommend that the data transfer process is performed at a non-critical period in the tax compliance and management process.

NOTE: You should consult with your tax manager for the best time to perform the upgrade.

5.1.3.1 ONESOURCE lock

We recommend sending a system wide message to all ONESOURCE Corporate Tax users notifying them of the upgrade and to log out of the system. The ONESOURCE Corporate Tax System Administrator can deny new logins into the system and also force the log out of any users still logged in.

For instructions see the Release Notes ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 or contact the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax System Administrator.

Page 20: N-ABLE 2010.1 Install Guide - Thomson Reutersdownloads.tsg.thomsonreuters.com.au/N-ABLE/2015/ONESOURCE...2.1.5 Installation files. The installation of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1

20 of 51

5.1.3.2 IIS lock

Use Internet Information Services Manager to prevent users from accessing the site:

Right-click on My Computer and select Manage.

Expand Services and Applications to show Internet Information Services (IIS)

Select the Web site and click on the Stop Button () on the toolbar as per the screen shot below. Windows server 2008 second screen shot.

When you undertake the upgrade, a new version of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 will be created on the same Web Server as the existing ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2014.1 installation.

If it is not possible to stop access to the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax Web Server, the upgrade process can be performed on an alternative server. Please contact Thomson Reuters Technical Support for assistance with this process.

6.8 Enabling User Password Generator

1. In the ONESOURCE 2015.1 release, a password generator/userID recovery feature has been incorporated into the application. The purpose of this feature is to enable a user to receive a password and their userID from the application without help desk interaction. Depending on the situation at least one email will be sent to the user containing a new password, which will require changing on next login. If the user has forgotten their userID then an additional email will be sent containing this.

2. To enable this feature there are two steps:

a. The users are required to update their details with answers to security questions and to ensure they have their current email correctly nominated within their user details page. More information is contained within the Tax Managers Checklist supplied separately; and

b. The IT staff are required to update details within the web.config file in the root directory of the application to ensure correct mail server settings are supplied.

3. Below is an extract from the current web.config file which shows settings for the hosted servers. These settings are located within the appsettings section near the end of the web.config file. These settings will not work for self-hosted clients.

<add key="EmailServerName" value="mx.online.thomson.com.au"/>

<add key="EmailSenderName" value="[email protected]"/>

<add key="EmailPort" value="25"/>

4. To enable local email functionality changes to the EmailServerName, EmailSenderName and EmailPort to the correct values for the local environment are required. Once these changes have been made save the file.

8 MAINTAINING AN ONESOURCE INSTALLATION

8.1 Structure of an ONESOURCE Corporate Tax Installation

There are three elements to an ONESOURCE Corporate Tax installation:

The virtual directory under IIS (http://servername/CT_NABLE_V2015_1).

The physical installation directory on the server’s hard disk (e.g. C:\Program Files\Allume\CT_NABLE_V2015_1)

The SQL Server Database (CT_NABLE_V2015_1)

The ONESOURCE Corporate Tax install application by default gives each of these elements the same name to minimise the risk of overwriting previous installations. Note that each of these elements is named NABLE_V2015_1 in this version.

8.2 Removing ONESOURCE Corporate Tax

Inactive versions of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax may be removed by deleting each of the three elements mentioned above.

NOTE: Check with the ONESOURCE Corporate Tax System Administrator to ensure the version you are deleting does not contain live business data and that you have a proven Database backup.

Confirm that the 3 elements that comprise an ONESOURCE Corporate Tax Installation are correctly referring to each other. Previous administrators may not have followed the Thomson Reuters recommendations and have installed ONESOURCE Corporate Tax in a customised way.

1. Use Internet Information Server (IIS) to determine the physical path of the virtual directory to be removed.

2. Check within the physical directory that a file called web.config exists. The “appsettings” section of this file contains the “NableDBConnectionString” key with the Database name and server location as part of the value. The important sections to note are “server=” and “database=”. The uid (user id) and pwd (password) are encrypted. The web.config file links the ONESOURCE application to the Database.

3. Use SQL Enterprise Manager to confirm that the Database exists on the server listed in part 2.

4. Once confirmed that the each element is referred to correctly, delete each one in the order shown above. You may have to stop Internet Information Server (IIS) momentarily to allow for the deletion of some of the elements. Remember ONESOURCE Corporate Tax keeps all information in the Database file so as long as you have a backup of the Database you can re-install and restore the Database.

8.3 Copying the ONESOURCE Installation

You can create a copy of your ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 application and data by installing a second version of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1 and restoring a backup of your Database over the new Database created for the new version.

Refer to section 9 - DATABASE MAINTENANCE for information on backing up, restoring and moving ONESOURCE Corporate Tax Databases.

Page 37: N-ABLE 2010.1 Install Guide - Thomson Reutersdownloads.tsg.thomsonreuters.com.au/N-ABLE/2015/ONESOURCE...2.1.5 Installation files. The installation of ONESOURCE Corporate Tax 2015.1

9 DATABASE MAINTENANCE

This section describes how to back up and restore an SQL Server Database. Note that a successful restoration is defined as restoring the Database in the same state as it was when backed up. If the Database is corrupt when backed up it will be corrupt when restored.

The method described allows a Database to be backed up from one computer and restored to another, which can be used for relocating a Database. It assumes SQL Server Enterprise Manager is open and connected to the server containing the Database to be backed up. It also assumes that you have the appropriate levels of access. A Database Administrator (DBA) from your IT department would normally carry out these functions, any attempt to backup, restore or move your database should be arranged and organised with your DBA.

9.1 Database Backup Procedure for SQL Server 2005/2008

1 Navigate to the Database in the list of Databases in SQL Server Enterprise Manager.

2 Right-click the Database name and from the All Tasks menu, select Back Up…

3 On the General tab ensure that Backup type is Full.

4 In the Destination control group click Add (If there is an existing entry in the list box you can highlight it and click Remove.)

5 Ensure File name is checked and enter the name of your proposed backup file. Take note of the location and add .BAK to the end of the file name so other users will recognise the file as a backup. Also include an identifier (for example, date/time) to make the file name meaningful.

6 Click OK to confirm the file name.

7 Check that the new filename is selected in the Destination list box and that Append to the existing backup stets is selected.

8 On the Options tab select the Verify backup upon completion option

9 Click OK.

10 The Backup progress window is displayed while the Database is being backed up.

11 Click OK when you receive the completion and verification message.

If the backup fails, try the following solutions:

Problem Solution

The file is in use and locked Try shutting down the Web Server that is accessing the database file. Ensure the file is not open in the Query Analyser.

The database is corrupt This could cause the backup to fail. Contact your DBA for further assistance.

9.4 Database Transaction Logging

ONESOURCE Corporate Tax Database transaction logging is set to ‘Simple Logging’ during installation to ensure that system performance is optimised.

NOTE: You should only change this setting after seeking the advice of Thomson Reuters Technical Support as changing to a different setting will cause excessive disk space consumption, when the database server runs out of disk space, ONESOURCE Corporate Tax will become inoperable, until disk space is freed up.

Under Simple Logging, it is essential that a daily back up is taken of the Database to minimise loss of data in the event that data needs to be restored from the previous day. A reliable nightly, weekly and monthly back-up procedure should be put in place to minimise the risk of losing valuable data.
