ENN ANNUAL KICKOFF KOFFEE

Saturday, August 11th 9AM - Noon Evergreen Fire & Rescue Admin Building, 1802 Bergen Parkway

The annual ENN Kickoff Koffee serves as a showcase for new and renewing members to learn about our fabulous ENN Activity Groups. Refreshments will be served; coffee, juice, water, pastries, fruit, etc. Each of our 23 Activity Groups will have a representative available to tell you all about their activities and answer your questions. (See the list on the last page of this newsletter.) They will gladly add your name to their email lists if you are interested in what they do. Drop in and see what’s new, and sign up for as many as you wish. If you have an idea for a new activity, you are certainly encouraged to discuss it with our Activity Chairperson or any other ENN Board Member at the event. Also, representatives from Programs & Socials and Community Outreach will be present to hear your ideas and talk about future events. The Annual Kickoff Koffee is a perfect opportunity for new members to join ENN. You may also renew your annual membership at this time if you have not already done so by mail. Our Membership Chairperson will be available to help you and answer questions. (Reminders: The ENN Indemnification Waiver is a one-time requirement that does not expire. If you have previously submitted one, another is not needed. The ENN membership year runs from August 1 to July 31.) Even if you have renewed your membership prior to the Kickoff Koffee, you are welcome to come and meet the new Board members, have some refreshments and snacks, and sign up for your favorite Activities. If you have a friend or neighbor who might be interested in joining ENN, bring them along as well. Please encourage everyone you know in Evergreen to come to our Kickoff and learn about our wonderful activities, social events and community resources. We are looking forward to another active and successful year and encourage your participation. Whether a newcomer or a long-time resident of the area, you will have a chance to meet new friends each year. We will do our best to provide you with some very pleasant experiences and perhaps a few surprises!

A C T I V I T I E SSPORTING CLAYS The sporting clay shoot at Kiowa Creek on July 17 was well attended. It was warm and dry with a mild breeze. Really no excuses for missing targets, but we missed some anyway. The next shoot will be August 21 at 10 AM. For further information, please contact Alan Palestine at [email protected].

MOTORCYCLE GROUP The Motorcycle Group's next ride will be Saturday, August 18.  We'll meet at the Blackbird Café in Kittredge for breakfast at 8:30 and launch from there at 9:30 AM. [email protected]

BOOK GROUP #2 Jan Cryns [email protected]

Our July gathering was at the Soda Creek home of Katy Lynch. It was a glorious summer day with the mountains in the background for our discussion of "Please Enjoy Yo u r H a p p i n e s s " b y P a u l Brinkley-Rogers. It is a memoir of a young man's time in the Navy stationed in Japan in 1959. For our August 16th meeting, Bookclub #2 is reading Margot Lee Shetterly’s "Hidden Figures”.

POT LUCK Our July Potluck was held at the home of Mark and Linda Bolinger. Fun and great conversation at every potluck is the norm. Current members and new members are welcome at potluck. Come and see if this group is for you. Rose Warren - [email protected]

W I N E T A S T I N G On July 22nd, the wine club, In Vino Veritas met at the home of Lou and Lydia Mazzullo in their newly completed wine tasting / party room! Lou provided the group with a sampling of wines from lesser tried vitis vinifera grapes from all over the world. Wonderful wines and food were en-joyed by all.

LES DEGUSTATEURS (Fine Wine Group) The members of Les Degustateurs (AKA the “fine wine group”) met on Saturday evening July 7th at the home of Bob Fudge.  Bob had an interesting format for the meeting, leading us through several French wine growing areas passed through by the “Tour de France”….. the famous annual bicycle race around France.  We learned about the origins of “Le Tour de France” and this year’s race route as well as tasting some interesting wines from the Cotes de Provence, the Loire Valley, Savoie, Saint-Joseph and Beaujolais.  Following our tasting we all sat down to a fun dinner of French fare and a nice French farm stew that Bob had prepared for us. EVENING BRIDGE Our July Friday night group met at the mountain top home of Carol & Jim Hunsaker. We enjoyed a lovely evening with a beautiful view, yummy appetizers, and good fellowship. Seems there was a lot of laughing during the evening. We had four tables. Probably not always about the hand dealt, but our top scorers definitely had good cards. John Greenwell, as top scorer, used his cards to his advantage, along with 2nd high Jeannie Rohner, followed closely by Fred Simon. September bridge will be hosted at the mountain meadow home of Jeanne and Donald Rohner. Invitations will go out at the beginning of the month. Please contact Pat Haines 303 674-1317 with questions. All levels of play are encouraged - we are a friendly, low-key bunch of players - "play" being the key to our success!

MEN’S BREAKFAST The ENN Guys Breakfast is always the second Tuesday of each month. We gather at 8:30 AM at the designated location for a good meal and lots of “guy” talk. Usually, by 9:45 we are done and ready to take on the day.

Last month 25 HUNGRY guys met for a hearty breakfast of farm fresh scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, ham and bacon, biscuits and gravy and fresh fruit at D-Rass Deli/La Cuisine Catering 5071 Hwy 73. The next Guys Breakfast will be August 14. An email will be sent out with information about the location of the breakfast. Guys, if you would like to join in the fun, please email John Dunlop at [email protected] to get on the email list.

SWAG (Sassy Women and Gals)

Our July gathering was held at the home of Fran Nelson in Hiwan Hills. After refreshments, we shared stories and mementos of family military members and then learned a new card game, Five Crowns, which is similar to rummy.

On TUESDAY, August 28th we will have our annual New Member Tea and a cabin tour at historic Kinickinnic Ranch in Evergreen. The cost per member is $20, all inclusive.

Our monthly meetings are held in volunteer host homes to enjoy refreshments and programs or speakers on topics of interest to women. Carpooling is available. This group of women has a lively coffee social and enjoys having fun! Come for a visit and see for yourself. Each month we have a program and a member presents a mini-biography of themselves. Lasting friendships are formed. There is plenty of time to RSVP if you’d like to attend. Please join us! Details will be emailed to those who RSVP. Email [email protected] or call 303-674-6405.

July Happy Hour at the Wild Game was a fun event despite the weather that threatened early on. The Wild Game staff did a great job accommodating our large group in the clubhouse with friendly and efficient service. ENN members enjoyed happy hour drink prices and their choice of appetizer from the special

ENN menu. The food portions were HUGE, the venue was perfect and the company and camaraderie was great!

If you missed the Happy Hour on July 25th at Wild Game, you missed a wonderful time!  Besides good food and tasty beverages, one member of our group "baptized" another member with a glass of red wine and one of us walked out without paying!!  Don't worry - everything was taken care of and no one spent time in jail.

This Happy Hour was again a great social event for ENN members and sadly the last one planned by our Programs and Social Co-Chairs Jim and Sylvia Stafford.  Over the past year they have planned and executed numerous Happy Hours, opportunities for ENN members to see the Evergreen Chorale, the Sculpture Walk and other interesting programs.  They planned the Holiday Party last December and the sold- out summer Mexican Fiesta in June!

We can't thank Jim and Sylvia enough for the time and effort they put into planning all the fun events we have enjoyed over the past twelve months!
