I would like to welcome every- one to the new SIA Newsletter. The newsletter has been devel- oped with the intent of keeping the membership informed of events and activities of the SIA and the Italian Community. If you have any input, interesting facts or would like to include informa- tion in the newsletter, please contact Vic Scaglione or Sam Pane. This years St. Joseph Celebration was a huge success more than a hun-dred people showed up to view the alters and to have a traditional family style Lenten meal. A big thank you to Mrs. “C” for the hard work she does every year to put this on.

The Society of Italian Americans Scholarship Program is open to all eligible college bound and/or current college students. To be eligible, you must be a child or grandchild of a current Society or Auxiliary member. The selection process begins with a letter of application which should be sent to the Board of the Society of Italian Americans:

Attn: Scholarship Chairman Society of Italian Americans 1801 McKinley Ave. Des Moines, IA 50315

The application letter needs to consist of: 1) The applicant’s grade point average 2) The applicant’s extracurricular activities within school 3) The applicant’s community service 4) Two letters of reference from someone other than family members

The application deadline is May 31, 2013.
