Welcome to Nah-Jee-Wah, your home away from home for the next
few weeks. For those of you who are new to camp, in this edition of
News @ NJW, our reporters wrote about their favorite activities, inter-
viewed their favorite camp counselors, talked about fun camp events,
and more! Enjoy camp!
Welcome Second Session!
A lot of people stay at camp for 1or 2 weeks. It is sad when your friends leave before you,
but at the same time, it gives new people the chance to move in! It ends up being a great way
to make friends. Here is some advice if your best friend(s) leave(s) early…
1. Make sure you write their names and emails down on paper to keep in contact!
2. Make sure you know where they live so that you can plan play-dates during the year!
3. MAKE SURE YOU CAN SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN!
-Zoe H, Abi
Goodbye, 1 and 2 weekers!
Summer Is Leaving Us!
Wow, summer went by quickly! Some of you have been here since the first day of camp, and
some have just arrived! For the people who have been here since June and July, you have
probably made amazing friends, CONGRATULATIONS for making it through the whole
summer! I have to admit, I feel pretty weird about the summer coming to an end
(NOOOO!!!!!)! I have made quite some memories here at NJW and my summer here. I
REALLY don’t want to go back to school because I don’t want to leave camp. Even though
we all have to say goodbye to one another and the summer of 2016, we’ve had a great time!
Now I guess what I’m thinking about is… what will 2017 be like? I guess we’ll have to find
out! See you next summer!

Itamar: We are a part of a

Nature is great! I know this because it is full of things
you don’t always get to do and sometimes never get
to see! They have a lot of animals in nature, so it
would take too long to name all of them. There are
gerbils, bunnies, lambs, ducks, a ferret, a pig, and even
a female snake named Steve! They are all so cute.
What do you do there? Besides petting and holding
the animals, you can sometimes feed them food and
water if there is time! They’re such cute animals and
the specialists who work there are awesome! You
NEED to try it!
-Renee, Naomi
Do you have a musical talent that you want to show to other
people? Or do you just want to learn how to play the guitar?
If so, guitar is the elective for you. It takes place in the white
pagoda on the Dan lawn. From small, colorful guitars to big,
solid-colored ones, there are a ton of guitars to choose from.
There are guitars for both left and right-handed campers, so
chose the guitar that suits you best! Also, you can bring your
own guitar if you have one. The teacher, Jake, is a really nice
guy. He tries to teach you anything that you want to learn.
When I signed up, I had so much fun. So, make sure that you
give guitar a try!

you! Try the amazing game of Tennis! It
is run by the amazing counselors Nadav

challenging. It is a great time, try it out!

My favorite activity at camp is Studio which is run by
Mrs. Michelle and her trusty assistant Emma. Here are
the reasons why I love Studio. First, I love making the
projects because they are so fun to make. So far, my
favorites have been a troll pencil and emoji pillow. All of
my projects turn out amazing. Second, when you’re
finished with your project, you can start another one!
For example: a chalkboard, the letter of your first
name, or even a twistee bracelet! The final reason is
that your project will always turn out well. Even if art is
not your passion, your project will still turn out amaz-
ing. I sign up for Studio every day and still like the pro-
jects. Try Art Studio if you haven’t tried it yet. Go Stu-
dio! -Hannah, Naomi
Studio
In Hannah/Levi , you get 3 electives. In all the other divisions of Nah Jee Wah, you get only 2 electives. An elective
is an activity that you sign up for. For example: High Ropes, Giant Swing, Athletics, Lake, Guitar, and all other
shops are all electives. Each cycle is 2 days long. If you are afraid of heights, then go to High Ropes to face your
fear. If you have an interest that you want to get better at, like arts and crafts, then you can go to either Den or
Studio. If you want, you can go to the pool or the lake. There are so many electives to choose from, but luckily,
since I am in Hannah, I get 3 electives! My favorite electives are High Ropes, Giant Swing, Newspaper, Pottery
Wheel, and Cooking. Pottery Wheel is on a double period cycle, so you technically have it 4 times in two days!

Banana boating is very fun. You can go on a
fast or slow banana boat. Sometimes the boat
is shaped like a banana, sometimes it is shaped
like a shark. You always get wet, so wear a
bathing suit! Have fun!
-Rubi, Abi
Today I had boating! I went on a
canoe. I went all around the lake
and then came back to the shore.
Then I went into the lake and
swan around. I went on the RAVE!
It was so much fun! Have fun at
the lake!
Once on the Rave,
I was bouncing and bouncing and bounc-
ing.
And then I realized the swing was bro-
ken!
Why was the swing broken?
Everybody was still having lots of fun,
We were jumping and sliding off.

The Rave Banana Boating
Have you ever been to the lake at Nah-Jee-Wah? There are two slides. One is 100 feet long. The other
one is called the Aqua Glide. You get to climb up one side and slide down the other. There is a trampo-
line on the lake called the Rave. You can jump on it and then swing off of it. You can also go boating on
the lake. You can go boating with up to 5 friends, try it out!
-Emma, Abi
-Marisa, Abi
I go to the lake every day. First day I was
scared. But, it is very safe. Yesterday I was
paddle boarding. It was a lot of fun. I fell
down but it isn't hard to get back up. Then, I
saw a really big slide and went on it because
it looked fun. I went down really quickly. It
was so much fun, I love the lake.

Woodshop is my favorite activity. You can make dice, hearts, emojis, cars,
Jewish stars, dreidels, and more! I’m making a car. I’m almost done with it! I
just need to glaze it. I see a lot of people make knock hockey boards. First,
you pick something to make. Next, you sand it. The instructors help you if
you need help. Everyone is very funny. So, get a smile on your face! After you
sand your pieces, you have to glue them together. Then, you paint it! Lastly,
you glaze it. If you like wood art, go to the woodshop! Check it out! Have
fun! Good luck!

Last night, a group of Israeli Scouts came to camp and put on an amazing per-
formance. They sang songs in English and Hebrew. They told short stories about
their favorite songs. They sang Golden Boy, songs from Frozen, and many more!
In the performance there were two groups. One group travels the USA to per-
form their show, and one group that works at camp with Israeli Culture. It was
a great night and you could tell that both the performers and the campers had a
ton of fun!

The science fair of first session was awesome. Every type of sci-
ence was respresented at the fair. For example, there was Chem-
istry, Biology, Robotics, and more! There were projects and ac-
tivities to do for everyone. Nah Jee Wah, Cedar Lake, and TAC
all participated in the fair. If you had the chance to check it out
this year, I hope you enjoyed it and consider signing up for it next
time!

High Ropes P A G E 9 V O L U M E 3 , I S S U E 3
Have you ever been to High Ropes? Even if you have or haven’t, High Ropes is really exciting!! There
are a couple of different elements you can do. For example, there are 2 rock-walls, one hard and one
easy, the catwalk (a log that you walk across), the vertical gym (which is sort of a few elements all in
one), and more! But, High Ropes isn’t just about the elements that you go on. Based on what you do,
there are different kinds of bracelets that you can earn. Here are all of the bracelets you can get
from High Ropes in NJW:
Black: Complete every element.
Purple: It’s a mystery!
Light/Dark Green: Climber of the week/breaking a record.
Rainbow: Complete every element while blindfolded.
So, next time you have electives, sign up for High Ropes!
-Stella, Hannah
In order to get a black bracelet in High Ropes, you must do every single element on the course. To get a
rainbow bracelet, you must complete all of the elements blindfolded. But, how do you get the purple
bracelet? No one in camp knows except for the ropes staff. Ivy from Hannah Bunk 15 was the first camper
in Nah-Jee-Wah to earn this mysterious purple bracelet. Even Ivy doesn’t know what she did to earn it!
Kids at camp are going crazy to earn this bracelet! Do you think you could be the second camper to earn
the purple bracelet?
-Kayla, Hannah
Purple Bracelet?
I love High Ropes. They have so many fun
things to do. At High Ropes, they give you
bracelets for each thing you accomplish. It is
great to collect them. My favorite activities
are the zip line (you get wet from the foun-
tain), cat walk, and the rock wall. This is why
I love High Ropes!

Is it your first time at camp? Mine too! Even if you
are a one or two weeker, you can do so many things
at camp! My two favorite electives are Lake and
Gymnastics. If you like to write then you can sign up
for Newspaper. Every day, we have Rec Period
which is free time to go to the pool or play sports.
There are so many different choices of what to do at
camp. We have sports, boating, arts and crafts, and
so much more! Each night before we go to bed we
have an activity with our division. On Fridays and
Saturdays, we have Shabbat Services. On Saturday
we also have brother and sister visitation. Brother
and sister visitation is when you can see and spend
time with your siblings that are in camp with you.
Every Sunday we have barbeques near the pool. It is
awesome and I hope you have a great summer!
-Elana, Naomi
It is my first year here at camp and I’ve been here for 8 days, 4 hours, and 2 minutes. I have definitely learned a lot already,
and I want to give advice to other first years like myself. The first thing that I have learned is that you have to be able to get
down and dirty! Sometimes it rains at camp which leads to a lot of mud! We also spend a lot of our days playing outside at
camp, so don’t worry about dirt! Another tip is to use sprays, specifically bug spray and sunscreen. There are a lot of bugs in
the outdoors and wearing bug spray helps prevent them. You also need sunscreen because it is really hot here and if you
don’t wear it you will burn! My last tip is to love camp. Have a positive attitude towards everything and try new things!
Hopefully, these tips will help you enjoy your time here! Hope you love camp!
-Allison, Hannah
Q: I am at canteen. Should I choose a bottle
of Gatorade or a can of Brisk Iced Tea?
A: I would go with the Gatorade. This will give you
energy for the rest of the day.
Q: I’m deciding between recreational pool
and athletics. Which one should I choose?
A: I prefer going to pool for Rec. It cools you off,
and you can do lake for instructional swim. There
is also a tire playground and a Gaga pit if you don’t
want to go in the pool.
Q: I’m at the lake. Should I go canoeing or
kayaking?
A: Over all I would go with kayaking, it is a lot of
fun. You can still stick with friends even though you
are in a single boat! But don’t worry, you will defi-
nitely get the chance to do both!
-Ethan, Levi
New to Nah Jee Wah? Do you know those nights when you miss your par-
ents? Well, I have a few tips for you!
1. Think about all of the fun activities you are going
to do tomorrow!
2. You can always take a minute to yourself to let
everything out!
3. Ask a friend for a HUG!
4. Be open to tell a counselor!
5. Remember! YOU’RE HERE TO HAVE FUN!

Why come over to camp NJW? Because there
are so many fun things to do such as lake, news-
paper, fishing, giant swing, High Ropes, low

it is ok, your counselors always makes you feel
better. Come and enjoy!

Cut pages out of your favorite magazines and tape them to your wall.
Put glow stars on the ceiling above your bed.
Duct tape your fan to match the comforter and sheets on your bed.
Decorate your wall with your favorite emojis.
Hang up pictures of the people you love onto your wall! Get a chalkboard or whiteboard and hang it in your area.
Clip your pictures onto string lights.
Hang up your finished lanyard onto the top and side of your bed!

In camp, a lot of campers are obsessed with emojis. Many bunks have been decorating their
walls with them! My bunkmates have a lot of stuffed emoji pillows. We also use emoji decals
and stickers! At Studio, people are making emoji pillows! In Den, people are making card-
board emojis with paint. They are also making emoji shrink-dinks. Some people love emojis so
much that they buy emoji accessories like emoji nail stickers, necklaces, bracelets, earrings,
shirts, and more! Emojis are fun, silly, and goofy!

A few days ago, my bunk night was at the pool. We played so many fun games. Some of the games we
played were games I haven’t played since I was a little kid. We played Red Light Green Light a few
times, it was still really fun. Somehow, I ended the night with the nickname “Rock-climbing Starfish.” I
don’t know how I ended up with that name but it was hilarious. We also played on the tire park, but
we did it in a special way. We played a game where we had to choose a spot on the tire park and had
to pose in a silly position. Even though I didn’t win any of the games, it was one of the best bunk nights
I’ve ever had!
On Thursday, July 28, camp NJW traveled to Camp Brookwood for a swim compe-
tition. So, for the readers that don’t know what a swim competition is like, it is a
competition that is full of races. In order to win a race, you need to be the first
person to touch the wall on the other side of the lane. It is more commonly known
as a swim meet. I have been in a lot of swim competitions in my life, so this compe-
tition was going to be a good one. We had a LOT of great swimmers on our team,
so that really increased our chances of winning. As expected, Camp NJW won! The
swim competition was a close call. In the beginning, we were beating camp Brook-
wood by a lot. But then, camp Brookwood started to catch up! By the end of the
day, it was clear who the winner was: Camp NJW! So, if you would like to give
NJW a victory, I really recommend that you try-out for a team and go to the races!

If you are a 6 or 8 weeker, then on changeover day you go to Dorney
Park. It is only about a 1 ½ hour drive with no traffic. Since you have to
wake up at 6:00 that morning, many people chose to sleep on the bus.
Before the trip starts, you have to tell your DH what level of rides you
want to be on. A Level #1 goes on only very small rides. A Level #2
goes on most rides. A Level #3 goes on all rides, if you want! Once we
got to Dorney, we split up into groups and went on our way. In the
morning, we didn’t go on any roller coasters. In the afternoon, we went
on many rides including Steel Force, Talon, and Thunder Wave. Steel
Force was scary, but really fun. My group went on Steel Force twice.
When it was time to go back to camp, my group was stuffed with fun! I’m
so glad I got to go!
Introducing one of the Jewish Heroes of the week, the comedian, my favorite
movie actor, ADAM SANDLER! Adam Sandler was our Jewish Hero of the week
because he wrote and dedicated a Hanukah song to us Jews. Adam says, “I love
being a Jew. I can’t stand it when others criticize others for being Jewish.” He also
had said that mostly every break he has during a movie (for example “Pixels”), he
prays to celebrate being Jewish! To find out more about him, go to the dining hall
and look at one side of the napkin dispenser. Remember to thank him for being a
great role model and remember to watch some of his movies!

Last night, for the Evening Program, Hannah and Levi bunks were split up into 7 groups to make their own skits.
Our bunk was paired up with a Levi bunk. We were given a bag with a few items. In our bag, we had a few beach
balls, a tambourine, a book, some necklaces, and a pair of sunglasses. We decided that our skit should take place
at the beach. Some people were playing volleyball, some were tanning, and one was even attacked by a shark! We
made the shark fins out of the paper bag. In the background, some people swayed their arms to look like palm
trees. I was one of the people playing with beach balls. It was a really fun activity, I hope you get to try it one day!

We make new friends,
Wishing that the summer will never end.
Archery, Pottery, and Den,
Electives we can do over and over again.
Hannah/Levi, Abi/Asher, Naomi/ Dan,
All very competitive in the hot summer sand.
Liquid sunshine doesn’t stop us,
We will find away to have more fun.
Nah-Jee-Wah, our home away from home,
Our lively and friendly dome.
