Introduction:The purpose of this guide is to show the steps required to do the Frequency upgrade on the M937XA PXI VNA.

The frequency upgrade kit covered in this guide is the M9370-65702. This kit can be ordered from SPO inventory. K02, K03 and K04 will keep a safety stock of 2 kits at all times.

The M9370-65702 may only be used on upgrades up to 20 GHz. If an upgrade to 26.5 GHz is required, the M9370-65701 kit must be ordered.

1. 1250-3895 Connector-RF Nut-Spanner 0.32-in-OD 0.07-in-THK Brass Au-plate

2. 1250-4106 Adapter-Coaxial Sparkplug APC-3.5 50Ohm 26.5GHz

3. M9371-80001 Nameplate, M9371A 300kHz-6.5 GHz

4. M9372-80001 Nameplate, M9372A 300kHz-9 GHz

5. M9373-80001 Nameplate, M9373A 300kHz-14 GHz

6. M9374-80001 Nameplate, M9374A 300kHz-20 GHz

Equipment Needed:The equipment needed to perform the upgrade are specific to the PXI VNA.

1. Y1283-60003 SMA and 3.5 mm Connector and Wrench Kit

The kit contains the following items:

1. 1250-3893 Adapter-Coaxial straight Plug APC 3.5 50Ohm 26.5GHz

2. 1250-3895 Connector-RF Nut-Spanner 0.32-in-OD 0.07-in-THK Brass Au-plated

3. 1250-4106 Adapter-Coaxial Sparkplug APC-3.5 50Ohm 26.5GHz

4. 8710-2652 Torque Wrench 5mm-open-end breakaway-style

5. 8710-2656 Tool-Socket for Spanner Nut 0.197-in-HEX 0.330-in-DIA 0.6-in-LG heat treated BeCu Ni-plated

2. T8 Torx driver

The 8710-2652 torque wrench and 8710-2656 Socket are very specific tools for this product and should only be used when replacing connectors on the M937XA PXI VNA.

Test Equipment Needed:Recommended Equipment

1. Frequency Counter 53131A/53232A

2. Power Sensor U8485A-200 (if using a non-USB Power Sensor, a Power Meter is needed)

3. Source N5183B-532 (PSG E8257D-532 also works fine)

4. Splitter 11667B

5. Calkit ECal or equivalent mechanical kit

1. 5063-1530 RF Cable Assembly 6 in SMA

2. 8120-5048 Cable A01/A06 1230G

Frequency Upgrade Steps:1. Replace the Connectors on the PXI VNA

a. Using the 8710-2652 Torque Wrench and the 8710-2656 Tool-Socket loosen the locking nut on Port 1 and Port 2.

b. Remove the locking nuts from Port 1 and Port 2

c. Using the 8710-2652 Torque Wrench remove Port 1 and Port 2 connectors.

d. See the pictures below.

Remove the connect with the 8710-2652 Torque Wrench

Connect out and ready for new connect to be inserted

2. Once the connectors have been replaced you are ready to move on to the next steps.

a. Option Enable, the unit will need to have the Model Number changed. To do this please follow these steps.

i. Plug the PXI VNA into the test chassis

ii. Boot the chassis with the PXI controller

iii. Start the PXI VNA application

iv. Select the slot number that matches the unit you are upgrading

v. Go to the Help Menu and select About Network Analyzer

vi. Send the Model Number / Serial Number to christopher_rich@keysight.com.

vii. An email with the Keyword for the new model number will be sent to you.

viii. Go to the Utility > System > Service menu

ix. Open Option Enable

x. Select Repair from the menu

xi. Check the box (Check if Model shown is incorrect!)

xii. Select Begin Repair

xiii. In the Model Change area use the drop down menu to select the Model number you are upgrading to.

xiv. Add the Keyword to the Hex Keyword and select change Model

xv. Once this is complete the NA Application will restart

b. Now the PXI VNA is upgraded to the new Frequency and you can start the Adjustments.

Adjustments:Service Adjustments are located in Utility > System > Service > Adjustments

All adjustments need to be run, with the exception of Loop Bandwidth Adjustment. This is only required if the unit has option 103 or 104. If the unit does not have these options, you may skip this adjustment. All other adjustments must be run, in order from top to bottom.

Once all the adjustments have been run, the unit can be transferred to the TME Cal Team for TME performance and verification.
