Narowal DistrictNarowal District 

is a district in the province of Punjab of Pakistan. Narowal city is the capital of the district. Narowal District is divided into three tehsils: Narowal, Shakargarh and Zafarwal. Before the independence of Pakistan in 1947, Shakargarh town was the headquarters of Shakargarh Tehsil, which was a subdivision of the Gurdaspur District of British India.

Narowal District Under the Radcliffe Award, the tehsil of

Shakargarh was transferred to Pakistan and attached to Sialkot District.

On July 1, 1991, Narowal and Shakargarh were removed from Sialkot District to form Narowal District.

Narowal Boundaries The district is bounded on the northwest

by Sialkot District, on the north by Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, on the southeast by the contested Pathankot tehsil of Gurdaspur district (Republic of India)

and on the southwest by Sheikhupura District in Pakistan.

SHAKARGARH Shakargarh, is a city in the north-east of

Narowal District, Punjab, Pakistan. It borders Jammu to the North and Sialkot

to the west.

The city is located at 32°16'0N 75°10'0E and is situated at the west bank of the Ravi River.

SHAKARGARH The total area of Shakargarh is

approximately 1,272 square kilometers. It is an agricultural city, wheat,

and rice being its main crops. The literacy rate in Shakargarh is 87%.

HISTORY However with the creation of Narowal District

on 1 July 1991, Shakargarh became tehsil headquarters was included as one of its tehsils.

Shakargarh was the gateway of Mughals entering Gordaspur and going to Delhi. Shakargarh is also was the gateway to Kashmir and regarded as the rest point for travelers.

HISTORY One of the main reason for its popularity

was and still is its rich and fertile land for wheat and top quality rice cultivation.

One of the superior land for rice cultivation in world.

It contains 703 villages, of which Shakargarh is the head-quarters.

Zafarwal Zafarwal city is situated in the Narowal

District of Punjab, Pakistan. It is located at 32°21'0N 74°54'0E with an

altitude of 268 meters (882 feet). It is 7 km away from Indian-administered

Kashmir. Zafarwal was part of the Kashmir region

during the rule of Ranjit Singh.

Zafarwal The Government of the Punjab has issued a

notification granting tehsil status to Zafarwal from July 1, 2009.

Zafarwal was a sub-tehsil of Narowal district.

The district will now consist of three tehsils Narowal, Shakargarh and Zafarwal.
