1. Arranging in ascending order means arranging the fractions from 'smallest to greatest' in

value.

2. Arranging in descending order means arranging the fractions from 'greatest to smallest' in

value.

Example 1-

Arrange fractions into ascending and descending order with same denominators

Endangered Species of Fiji (continued)

1. Dalo

- There are 125 different varieties of dalo.

- Around 70 varieties were grown and consumed by Fijians before the arrival of other

settlers.

2. Yaka

- Yaka is one of Fiji’s renowned primitive conifers (a cone- bearing seed plant).

3. Cibicibi

- Is a slender tree that can grow up to 4m in height.

4. Tagimoucia

- Is a liana (woody vine), that forms thickets (small growth of shrubs, bushes or small

trees) high up in the canopy.

5. Balaka

- Is usually small palm but it can grow up to 13m in height, with 8cm diameter trunk.

6. Balaka Macrocarpa

- Is a small palm that grows up to 8m in height with a trunk of 5- 10cm in diameter.

7. Yasi

- Is a small shrub or tree that grows up to 8- 10m in height.

8. Pacific Kauri

- Is a gymnosperm (a plant whose seeds are not enclosed in an ovary), and can become

- Is a beautiful tall tree that can grow from 15-30m in height.

10. Drautabua

- Is a gymnosperm and a member of the wider and better-known pine family.

11. Soga

- Is a large palm that grow up to 15m in height.

12. Taqwa

- Is moderately stout, small understory palm that grows up to 5m in height, with 15cm

trunk diameter.

13. Balaka Streptostacy

- Is the stoutest of all the Balaka growing to a height of 4- 7m with a 10cm trunk

diameter.

14. Alsmithia Longipes

- Is a medium sized palm with a trunk of up to 10m in height.

15. Navua Pal

- Is a slender palm that grows up to 15mm in height.

16. Vilaito

- Is moderately stout palm with a light colored trunk.

17. Fijian Copper Headed Skink

- Is a medium sized skink.

18. Hawksbill Turtle

- Has a narrow heart shaped shell and often has a vertebral keel.

19. Green Turtle

- Has a sub-circular to heart- shaped shell.

Drugs

1. A drug is a substance which may have medicinal intoxicating, performance enhancing, or

other effects when taken or put into a human body and is not considered as a food.

Types of drugs

a. Prescribed drugs

✓ Are those issued or prescribed by the doctor to cure a particular sickness e.g.

the antibiotics

b. Over the counter drug

✓ Are those drugs that can be bought without the doctor’s prescription e.g.

Panadol, cough mixture etc.

c. Illegal drugs

✓ Are drugs that are not allowed by government to be used by its people e.g.

marijuana, cocaine, heroin etc
