Location & Overview The 160.7 ha property was established in the early 1800s'. The area caught the eye of the early European pioneers for the valuable Red Cedar Tree, and its fertile mixed volcanic/clay with red brown top soil. Later it was turned into a Dairy Farm, where the cream was sent to the thriving butter factory at Bowraville and shipped to England. In 1960 this trade was discontinued so the industry ceased. About 1980 a tea tree plantation was started with the planting of over 1 million trees.

The property and terrain mostly consists of river flats and rolling green hills 70% is cleared land. The remainder is re-growth forest and the Farm adjoins a NSW State Forest. Three quarters of the farm is surrounded by the North Arm/Nambucca River. It delivers pristine, clear water for drinking and services. The farm is fortunate to have two private large swimming holes that may be used for recreational purposes.

Though the state of NSW has been in drought for the past few years it has not affected the local river that continues to deliver water and the irregular rain has not impacted on the Tea Tree plantation. The short interval of rain is enough for the Tea Tree plantation to flourish and maintain the organic vegetables. The farm is lush and green and the two dams are full of water. For the vegetables a portable irrigation sprinkler

system is installed in the event of prolonged periods without rain - an irrigation license for 10.00 ha is held.

Bulk Business

We bulk export 1 ½ - 2 tons of Tea Tree Oil to our customers over the world and grow 5 tons of garlic per annum. The product is entirely sourced from the farm. The Tea Trees are harvested at a height of about 2 meters, depending on the weather; it takes around 12 months to grow. As the farm is organically certified, the Tea Tree Oil product has a niche in the market place. In addition to Tea Tree Oil production the farm grows organic garlic made up of two varieties: Russian and Purple Glen. A by product of mulch is produced and surplus amounts are sold as well.

The Workings of The Farm This has been the current owner’s home since 1996. The couple run the farm by themselves. Many of owners' plans and ideas are influenced by research and development into Biodynamic farming in Switzerland, the owner’s home country. The owners' planned a management program involving biodynamic organic farming principles.

The Workings of The Farm (Cont.) The B. D. F. method is a new approach to agriculture based on advanced knowledge of how the soil works, plants and animals as they exist on the farm and as part of the total environment. Its aims are to produce a well- balanced plant growth from sustainable soil fertility through enhancing soil structure and the availability of nutrients. It uses a range of farm sourced preparations to assist in effecting these aims. These preparations, developed initially by Dr Rudolf Steiner, are made by natural rock and animal materials. When you buy Organic food and products, it is always prudent to look for the appropriate registration number.

Achievements:

Hard work and careful management were rewarded with industry recognition in 1998 of the Australian Tea Tree Industry Association (ATTIA) Best Tea Tree Oil Award, judged on clarity and suitability for market demand.

Future Plans

Include:-

Installing a pipe line and a water tank in Silicon Valley for the cattle & irrigation, which will supply gravity fed water, to house & shed, which is almost completed Experimental Macadamia Nut and blue berries plantation with a view to investing into a larger export plantation. The Property Management planning course we finished, which was set up part/funded by the government. To be accredited by government.
