II. The Wilmot Proviso

A. No slavery allowed in territories gained from war with Mexico.

IV. The Fugitive Slave Act

A. Those accused of being fugitives (runaways) held w/o arrest warrant. No right to jury trial.B. Federal judge ruled each case…got $5 for releasing a runaway, and $10 for turning them over to a slave holderC. Fines for people who helped runawaysD. Northerners couldn’t ignore it anymore…
