Why Do I have to Seek Islamic Knowledge? Allah (SWT) said to his Prophet Muhammad (SWA):” Say (to them) can those who Have knowledge (of deen) and those who do not have knowledge (of deen) be Equal? (Az Zumar:9) Islamic knowledge guides us; on how to best serve Allah (SWT), what is halal from haram or what direction to implement in any situa- tion. Islamic Knowledge is the armour of a Muslim against Iblis (shaytaan). Without knowledge we cannot save ourselves from Jahan- nam or acquire Jannah. When a servant of Allah is granted Islamic knowledge, he recognises and appreciates Allah’s attributes and qualities, loving and worshipping him more. Islamic Knowledge is the basis of all good. It teaches us how to live a complete way of life. When a person devotes himself to attaining Islamic knowledge then Allah (SWT) honours him in this world and in the hereafter. Also, when Allah intends good for a person he guides him towards the understanding of deen. How fortunate are those who come daily to the Maktab! All the creations of Allah (SWT) make dua for their forgiveness, the pathway to Jannah is made easy for them and they receive a portion of inheritance from the Ambiya (AS)! Time to Reflect A person planted a thorn tree on a pathway frequently used by people. As it grew, its thorns began to injure those walking by. The person was told that the tree was a hin- drance causing harm to people, so he promised to uproot the tree saying, “I WILL DO SO TOMORROW.” Many tomorrow’s came and went, but the tree remained. The tree had taken root deeply and grown in strength. He was final- ly ordered to remove the tree. However, with the passing of time he had aged and was weak. So now a bulldozer was needed to remove the thorn tree. The lesson is if sins are not given up when young, then the roots of those sins sink deeper entrenching themselves in the heart, which become more difficult to give up when one is older. A: Facebook and other social networks in themselves are not Haraam. However, viewing content that is not permissible to view or communicating with those whom it is not permissible to communicate with, is Haraam. Hence, if one limits one's use of facebook and other social networks to permissible activities then utilising facebook etc. will not be Haraam. How- ever, if one utilises facebook etc. for impermissible viewing or communication then such usage of the programme will be deemed impermissible and such viewing and communication will be regarded as sinful. Further, if one has no need to utilise facebook etc. for communication or other permissible work then one should avoid using it because of the numerous harms and evils associated with it. It has been noted that people are generally unable to control their tempta- tions and innocent usage of the programme often leads one to sin. Therefore, we would not encourage the usage of social networks. Q: Many individuals on social media post as their portfolio a photograph of themselves, some animate object or a picture of something relating to their personal life. Is this permissible? Please explain. A: Social media is a largely open forum for anyone to access and view. As such, by posting personal pictures on social media one allows unknown indi- viduals to see what they normally do not have access to. This can lead to peo- ple becoming curious, envious or even jealous and thereby may open the door to abuse and vice. Therefore personal and animate postings should be avoid- ed. If one really wishes to have a profile picture, one should place an inanimate image that conveys a positive message. Why Do I have to Seek Islamic Knowledge?

Allah (SWT) said to his Prophet Muhammad (SWA):” Say (to them) can those who Have knowledge (of deen) and those who do not have

knowledge (of deen) be Equal? (Az Zumar:9)

Islamic knowledge guides us; on how to best serve Allah (SWT), what is halal from haram or what direction to implement in any situa-

tion. Islamic Knowledge is the armour of a Muslim against Iblis (shaytaan). Without knowledge we cannot save ourselves from Jahan-

nam or acquire Jannah. When a servant of Allah is granted Islamic knowledge, he recognises and appreciates Allah’s attributes and

qualities, loving and worshipping him more. Islamic Knowledge is the basis of all good. It teaches us how to live a complete way of life.

When a person devotes himself to attaining Islamic knowledge then Allah (SWT) honours him in this world and in the hereafter. Also,

when Allah intends good for a person he guides him towards the understanding of deen. How fortunate are those who come daily to the

Maktab! All the creations of Allah (SWT) make dua for their forgiveness, the pathway to Jannah is made easy for them and they receive

a portion of inheritance from the Ambiya (AS)!

Time to Reflect A person planted a thorn tree on a pathway frequently used

by people. As it grew, its thorns began to injure those

walking by. The person was told that the tree was a hin-

drance causing harm to people, so he promised to uproot

the tree saying, “I WILL DO SO TOMORROW.” Many

tomorrow’s came and went, but the tree remained. The tree

had taken root deeply and grown in strength. He was final-

ly ordered to remove the tree. However, with the passing of

time he had aged and was weak. So now a bulldozer was

needed to remove the thorn tree. The lesson is if sins are

not given up when young, then the roots of those sins sink

deeper entrenching themselves in the heart, which become

more difficult to give up when one is older. Ummijunaid

Poem

From the first Moment we are in the world,

Picked up and flowing into our ear the call to prayer

As strong as our little fist tightly curled.

From that moment we begin to grow

New temptations are introduced to restrict our

Heavenly flow. But we are not here for worldly things

The things shaytaan whispers and brings.

For we know that life is a test, and as Muslim’s

We must do our best, to have our faith well and strong

Do the good and challenge the wrong.

For pleasing Allah is our main goal, it doesn’t matter

Whether you are rich or on the dole.

For Jannat must be our real home,

Like a wonderful palace made of gold and a giant dome,

So dear Muslim’s do not roam,

But run to find your special home.

Safiyya M

Take Heed

Once in a beautiful garden, two colourful butterflies were passing through the air.

The older one advised the younger butterfly to be careful of the trap door spider

that resides amongst the foliage. As they flew the younger butterfly thought to

herself; “what spider can devour us, we have wings? Who will be foolish enough

to be caught in a web?” “This must be a myth!” She exclaimed. Later that day she

returned to investigate. To her bewilderment as soon as she perched on a flower

she was seized by huge palps. Now it was too late!

Moral: Allah’s SWT warning in the Holy Quraan is beyond our intellect, its realisa-

tion will only be made apparent when death strikes. Zahraa B
