TODAY’S SECOND COLLECTION THE CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS APPEAL

The Catholic Home Missions Appeal primarily supports dioceses in the United States and its territories that are unable to offer their basic pastoral ministries of word, worship, and service without outside help. The Appeal supports a wide range of pastoral services. It focuses principally on 1. evangelization activities, 2 religious edu-cation, 3 ministry training for priests, deacons, religious sisters and brothers, and laypeople, and 4 support of poor parishes across the country. “The grants we receive from the Catholic Home Missions Ap-peal help us ensure that the future of these parishes are in the hands of adequately prepared priests who can meet the needs of the residents here. While we have faced many challenges in recent years, this Appeal restores our hope that the future will be brighter and our parishioners will continue to be served.” - Most Reverend Roger P. Morin, Bishop of Biloxi

NEXT SUNDAY’S SECOND COLLECTION WILL BE FOR THE LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR

FAZtor’s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora

Just when we had proclaimed the resurrection of Christ and in the middle of our celebration of the glory and joy of Easter, some parishioners faced the reality of death, others struggling for dear life in the hospital or in their homes and still others dealing with their pain. We lost a dear parishioner this week. That’s just the usual way of saying when someone dies, for we don’t lose some-one who is dear to us. Mrs. Cecilia O’Brien was a dear parishioner. She was one of our candle clean-ers and was so generous with her time and treasure to the church. She was the biggest contributor to our new sanctuary carpet, and gave generously to other projects, like the Church bathroom remodeling. When I learned about her passing away, I called and left a message with Sr. Karen, at Mercy Retire-ment & Care Center in Oakland. I said: “I am sorry to hear about the death of Cecilia, but I am also happy that she is now with the Risen Lord.” She is earth’s loss, but heaven’s gain. She lost earth, but she gained heaven. Gone is temporal life, she now enjoys eternal life. This Sunday of the Easter season is Divine Mercy Sunday. What a coincidence, Mrs. O’Brien who herself was very merciful, resided at the Mercy Retirement Home for the past four years and was well taken care of by the Sisters of Mercy. As we thank Mrs. O’Brien for her service and sharing her abundant blessings with Holy Name, we also thank the Sisters of Mercy and those who took good care of her. Continuing my words of gratitude, thank you to those whose mercy abounded this past Holy Week. Thank you to those who came to our Church House Cleaning, making sure the church was ready for Ho-ly Week. Our school principal Mrs. Judy Cosmos, even came, kneeling and scrubbing the floor. She reminded me something that happened at the Lord’s Last Supper as Jesus said: “If I, your master and Lord, wash your feet, you should wash each others feet.” In two words, humility and service. The church was beautiful, thanks to our Envi-ronment Committee. The Altar servers were great and the liturgies were orderly, thanks to Mr. Tri Ngu-yen, the week’s MC and to Sr. Stella and Sr. Esther. Our sextons were on top of things; the music was heavenly with the choir singing in enchanted unity and highly improved vocal quality. Continued next column...

HOLY NAME Youth Ministry! - Don’t Forget!

The youth group (7th grade and up) meets every 2nd & 4th Sunday after the 11:30 AM Mass.

We invite all youth from 7th-12th grade to join us for fun, fellowship and to learn more about the person of Jesus Christ.

FAZtor’s Notes The “Magnificent 7”, who shared reflections on the Seven Last Words, were wonderful with their in-sightful and touching reflections. The School’s reen-actment of the Stations of the Cross was well re-hearsed and performed, yet prayerful. Thanks to our youth group who hid the eggs for the Easter egg hunt. To the many unseen and unmentioned people, thank you so much. Now I can take my vacation. But I don’t know if the word is in my vocabulary. What I have is voca-tion not vacation. I will still be working globally! Someone said that a dream vacation would be one where your family all gets along. I’m glad my family gets along, but sometimes when I get back from va-cation my credit cards are all in ICU.

PENNY DRIVE 2011 We are still collecting for our penny drive... Pennies, Silver Change, Dollars & Checks welcome! We have collected $3,814.42 towards our goal of $5,290. Proceeds of this fundraiser will be used to pay for a candle stand for the Chapel You may drop off your donations in the glass containers at the back of the Church or at the Pastoral Center office.

TO ALL HOLY NAME PARISHIONERS: You are all invited to a free informational semi-nar at 7:30 pm on Friday, April 20, 2012 in Flanagan Cen-ter. CELEBRATIONS OF LIFE will be presented by Ms. Claire Sheehan, Pre-Planning Counselor at Duggan's Ser-ra. While many of us plan for the possible, the po-tential misfortunes of life seldom actually happen. Yet, few of us prepare for the inevitable. Pre-planning ser-vices are a way to prepare for that time of need, without the pressure and anxiety associated with making deci-sions during a time of grief when we lose our loved ones. Find out more about pre-planning services as Ms. Sheehan discusses the process and answers your basic questions. This is a FREE presentation courtesy of the Fil-Am Club of Holy Name. Friends and family are wel-come. Refreshments and a light meal will be served.

When Jesus saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity, and he told his followers:
