HOLY NAME OF JESUS MEMORIAL/FOUNDATION FUND An appropriate way of expressing love and respect in memory of a deceased relative or friend, or of presenting a gift for any special occasion in the life of a relative or friend, is to make a financial contribution to a good work. The Holy Name Memorial/Foundation Fund was developed in order to provide members and friends of Holy Name Church to take part in providing various items of worship, as well as the upkeep of our buildings and grounds in general. Memorials are given for many reasons. Some are given “in memory of” a family member or friend who died, some are given “in honor of” a special person on a special occasion, and some are given because of a determined need. If you wish to offer a gift, please send a note with the name of the person you are honoring, and the name and address to send the gift notification to along with your check made payable to Holy Name Church.
HOMEBOUND THANK YOU Sister Herminia and the Homebound Committee wish to thank all those who volunteered to help with the Homebound Mass and reception on Satur-day, June 10, 2012. FAZtor’s Notes by Fr. Arnold Zamora We have been celebrating the many great feasts and solemni-ties of the church, this time we celebrate the 11th Sunday in Or-dinary Time. But this Sunday is not an ordinary Sunday, because we celebrate Father’s Day. So, at
the outset, let me greet all the fathers, “Happy Father’s Day!”
According to Wikipedia, Father’s Day was founded in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd and its first celebration was in Spokane, Washington in June 19, 1910. That was more than 100 years ago. I know the purpose of the celebration is the same, but the way it was cele-brated must be different and so were the fathers in the 1900s. Here are some of the differences:
In 1900, a father's horsepower meant his horses. Today, it's the size of his minivan. In 1900, if a father put a roof over his family's
head, he was a success. Today, it takes a roof, deck, pool, and 4-car garage. And that's just the vacation home.
In 1900, a father waited for the doctor to tell him when the baby arrived. Today, a father must wear a smock, know how to breathe, and make sure film is in the video camera.
In 1900, a happy meal was when Father shared funny stories around the table. Today, a happy meal is what Dad buys at McDonald's.
In 1900, a father came home from work to find his wife and children at the supper table. Today, a father comes home to a note: "Jimmy's at baseball, Cindy's at gymnastics, I'm at Costco, Pizza in fridge."
Regardless of the century, 20th or 21st, and the differences, we continue to honor our fathers and the many people who made a difference in our lives.
Congratulations to our Holy Name Parish Nurse, Carol Elliot, as we honor her in recognition of her valu-able and noble work for the parish and to the whole of humanity.
We also honor Sr. Rita Chen, FdCC for her dedi-cated service to the Archdiocese in San Francisco for 26 years. Sr. Rita worked at St. Cecilia’s for 5 years, she also worked at Holy Name for the after-school Chinese school program for 7 years. She spent 13 years at St. Brendan’s as RCIA and Baptism coordina-tor. St. Brendan’s will celebrate her retirement this Sunday at the 9:30AM and 11:30AM masses. She will be making a permanent move to the Canossian Con-vent in Hong Kong by the end of this month.
“Honor your father and your mother,” the com-mandment says. That includes your elders, brothers and Sisters too.
COLLECTION FOR THE CONGREGATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
This weekend’s Second Collection is for the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans), an internation-al Religious Congregation working in 60 countries, spread on every continent, dedicated in serving the poor and marginalized anywhere the church calls upon them. Please give a warm Holy Name welcome to Fr. Matthew Amoako-Attah, C.S.Sp. a Spiritan priest from Ghana, West Africa. He is currently the Parochial Vicar for St. Benedict and St. Mary’s Parishes. Fr. Matthew has worked in the missions in the Gambia where the popula-tion is 95% Muslim. He will speak to us at all the Masses. The proceeds from the appeals will go help their mission-ary work and help out in the training of over 80 seminari-ans, in the Holy Ghost seminaries in Ghana and Nigeria. The Holy Spirit Fathers are devoted to working with the less advantaged people. Your support will help them serve the poor and train missionaries.

As he explores the identity of Jesus, the main topic of “Amazed and Afraid: The Revelation of God Become Man,” the first episode screened, the globetrotting Father Barron visits lushly photo-graphed holy sites in Bethlehem, Galilee and Jeru-salem before traveling on to various sacred locales around Rome. Classical religious artwork – smooth-ly panned and zoomed in the style justly known among broadcasters as the Ken Burns effect — pro-vides further engaging imagery. The substantive discussion carried on be-hind these visuals introduces viewers to the messi-anic expectations laid down in the prophecies of the Old Testament and to the surprising, sometimes paradoxical, manner in which Jesus — by his life, death and resurrection — fulfilled them. What I Learned from You by Gary Hennerberg Celebrating the Wisdom of our Dads
Make Hay When the Sun Shines When it’s sunny, and the forecast looks good, it’s time to bring out the equipment and take advantage of the circumstances of the day. Not every day is sunny, and not every day in life brings opportunity. I learned from you that when times are good to make the most of it. Sharpen Tools on a Rainy Day When it rained and we couldn’t go to the field, we used our time wisely by sharpening tools, doing maintenance, or other tasks that would give us a jump start on the season. I learned from you that those rainy days are actually a gift from God to re-fresh, renew and make us better. Do Two Things at Once You taught me to have two things going at the same time. Some tasks don’t require constant monitoring and a second task can be started before the first task is completed. That’s the art of multi-tasking, and the ability to get twice as much done in the same amount of time. I learned from you that by multi-tasking I can double my effectiveness. Keep Machines Cleaned and Maintained We washed the machinery and conducted routine maintenance as an automatic ritual. It made them look years younger than their actual age, and cost less money to operate in the long run. That attitude you instilled in me continues today with an ethic to take care of my belongings and treat them with re-spect. Stay Between the Lines A clean field requires staying between the rows when cultivating it. When you stray outside the rows, you’ll needlessly destroy precious crops. I stay within the lines in my personal life and do what’s right for my business associates. I learned from you to be careful not to do anything that would destroy what we culti-vate. Take the High Road An improper act shouldn’t result in an improper re-sponse. Better to take the high road and be able to hold your head up with pride knowing that you did the right thing. I learned from you that often the best response is silence, and that good fortune re-turns when you treat people with respect. Go To Church Every Sunday and Trust God We went to church every Sunday. It’s a lifelong habit you instilled in me. With my trust in God, I’m able to step back and recognize a greater power. Trusting God reinforces the real priorities of life and family. And just as importantly, it has given me the freedom to know that at the end of the day, and at the end of time, everything will be all right.

HOLY NAME TREE OF LIFE The Holy Name “Tree of Life”, a bronze tree trunk with approximately 400 leaves is located at the back of the Church. Donors can have their names, or those they wish to honor, engraved on the leaf. The proceeds of the donations to the “Tree of Life” will go towards a much-needed Capital Improvement Fund.
