The average Kitsilano athlete spends 5 hours a week, training for their respective sports. Along with the heavy, time consuming course-load, Kitsilano student athletes find time to train and travel for their passions. Although games draw the most crowds, they are only a small fraction of the time Kitsilano athletes spend in the zone. More time spent training means less time doing schoolwork which can lead to stress. Christian P. (12) said “During the off season I generally find sports as a way to
decompress. But in the height of the track season it’s difficult to balance my training and schoolwork which can lead to stress.” On the other hand, sports act as a stress reliever for some. If you need some time to take your mind off the stresses of life, training can act as a great outlet. In addition, at Kitsilano, students have
the opprtunity to pursue their physical training through the Fitness off-timetable course the school offers. “It’s definitely tough getting up so early in the morning, but I’ve definitely improved my strength and conditioning wwhich makes it worth it.” said Charlotte M. (12) about the course. Although time consuming and tiring at times, athletics offer Kitsilano students an outlet to relieve stress from their day to day lives. The extensive hours of training are, in the end, all worth it when athletes see the positive results on the pitch, on the rink, or in the court afterwards.
