Year 3 Home Learning Project

WALT: Research, design and make a Stone Age house that meets the design brief.

Design Brief:

•You are living in the Stone Age and have to build you own house.

•First you need to research what materials you are able to use and how it would look. What did they have inside their houses and why?

•Design your home and show the ideas you have thought of. Make sure you include what materials you have chosen and why.

•Build your replica home and then evaluate what you have made. Explain any thing you may do differently next time and why.

WALT: Research houses that were made in the Stone Age to help you design your own.

RESEARCH:

WALT: Decide what specifications your house needs to meet.

• You need to think about …What are the weather conditions? Is it hot, cold, wet, windy, sunny? Etc.

•  What would your needs be in the Stone Age? What would you need your house to do? E.g. What materials does it needs and why? Consider what would have been available at those times

WALT: Decide what materials your house is going to be made out of and why.

Material Reason

WALT: Sketch out possible ideas for the design of the house taking into consideration the design brief and specifications.

WALT: Annotate your final design that meets the design brief and specifications.

Chose your favourite design that meets the design brief and your specifications best. Draw and annotate your house clearly. Don’t forget to mention the material choice, why you have designed the different parts as you have and how it meets the design brief.  

WALT: Write detailed instructions on how to make your house. Use imperative (bossy) verbs.  

WALT: Evaluate your house.
