Adventure Story Example

An adventure story is fiction that puts characters in a dangerous position. The characters have to take risks. There needs to be a hero who survives all the dangers. This makes it very exciting for readers.

This is what you need to make an exciting adventure story: 1. Decide on a dangerous or challenging setting. 2. Create a goal that must be achieved. 3. Create a hero that will achieve this goal. 4. Make problems that the hero needs to overcome in order to achieve

the goal.

DIRECTIONS Read the following adventure story.

The Lost Treasure of Azbark

Charles had always considered himself to be a normal man. Every day he woke up, went to work, returned home, and went to bed. His life was not very interesting. However, that all changed when his dying grandfather gave him a map that was meant to lead to the lost treasure of Azbark. Nobody knew what the treasure was, or if it was even real, but Charles decided it was about time he took a risk. He bought a plane ticket and headed to Australia, where his great adventure would begin.

The first stop on the map was Shark Cove. It was a place full of great white sharks. He never thought he would have to scuba dive through shark infested waters, but that is what he did. He needed to find a statue at the bottom of the ocean which held a secret key. The longer he swam, the scarier it became. Curious sharks began to bump Charles. Just then, he saw the statue with the key. As he swam down, a shark attacked him. The shark’s jagged teeth punctured his air tank. Charles was running out of oxygen fast. He quickly made a lunge towards the statue and grabbed the key. Another shark swam towards Charles. Using the key, Charles stabbed the shark in its eye. As the shark turned around to swim off, he grabbed the shark’s tail, which took him back to the ocean’s surface. It was a lucky escape.

After resting for a few days, Charles went to the final stop on the map. It was the Deadly Desert. There was meant to be a treasure chest there. Many people who entered the desert never returned. There were no sharks here, but there were poisonous snakes hiding beneath the hot sand. As he looked at the map, he knew he was getting closer. He could hear more and more snakes slithering through the sand. Suddenly, Charles stepped on something strange. It was a snake! It let out a huge hissing noise. All the other snakes started to slither towards Charles, too. Charles thought this was going to be the end of him.

About fifty meters away, Charles spotted a large boulder. If he could climb up, he might be safe from the deadly snakes. He ran as quickly as he could. He never knew he could run so fast. He was almost at the boulder when he tripped over. A snake bit his boots. He kicked the snake in the face. The snakes were even angrier now. Just then, it started to pour with rain. The snakes were stunned. It gave Charles just the time he needed to climb onto the boulder. At the top, he couldn’t believe his eyes. He was looking at a very old treasure chest. He tried to put in the key he found at Shark Cove. It fit! Charles turned the key. He slowly opened the treasure chest. He couldn’t believe his eyes. Inside, he found another treasure map. He risked his life for this? He couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. He stuffed the map into his pocket. All the snakes had hidden from the rain now, so he ran all the way back to safety, drinking the rain water as he did.

Charles had his adventure. He wasn’t going to go on another one again. He decided to keep the new map. Perhaps he would give it to his own grandson when he got older, just like how his grandfather had done for him. This new treasure map could be someone else’s adventure. Perhaps this next map would lead to the lost treasure of Azbark.
