Hello NAMI of Greater Wheeling! I wanted to share a message with you about holding onto hope. Hope and optimism play a huge role in our lives and can affect our mental and physical health as well as the health of our relationships. Loss of hope and optimism is one of the core symptoms of clinical depression. In the world today with 24 hour news cycles and social media, remaining hopeful and optimistic can seem very difficult. One positive and hopeful piece of advice from Mr. Fred Rogers is to “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” when we see something bad happening. I love how this takes the focus off of the negative event that has happened and focuses it on those who are providing support. This is very much like the suggestions to “look for the good” in all people and situations. I challenge everyone reading this message to become “the good” and “the helpers” whenever you see others in need. That is our mission at NAMI of Greater Wheeling, to help individuals and families who are strug-gling find hope. Wishing you well, Erin Roxby, Ph.D. IECD, IMH-E ®

Elizabeth is a West Virginia native, cooking/food enthusiast and
mental health advocate. She began her journey writing early on as a way to find hope in dark places. Her writing took off when her
daughter experienced a major depressive episode which almost took her life and landed her at an inpatient facility. This was a
catalyst for Libbi to increase her passion for helping others, especially moms, through writing. Her goal is to fill gaps so her readers are able to find light, breath and hope while supporting
their loved ones through their mental health journey.
