Welcome to our latest Nanny Salary Index.
Each year, since 1993 we have released our nanny salary index to help employers estimate their total employment costs, when taking on a nanny.
The data we use to collate this survey has been taken directly from our payroll records and relates to the 19/20 tax period which started on the 6th April and ended on 5th April 2020. This allows us to provide a full snapshot for the year, based on the specific rates and thresholds for that period.
The figures provided in our salary index are intended for guideline purposes, however, as with any position we would encourage you to also consider the candidates experience and qualifications when agreeing a salary.
We hope you find our Index useful and wish you the best of luck in your employment journey.

The Johnson family is looking for a full time, live in nanny in Central London. The nanny would be working 10 hours a
day across 5 days per week.
To get an idea of how much it may cost to hire a full time, live in nanny they checked our average data using the
Average Gross Salary per County - Live In / Full time tables on page 9.
FULL TIME NANNY
The Smith family are looking to hire a part time nanny, who will be looking after their children for 25 hours per
week. The family are based in Oxfordshire and would be looking to take on a live out nanny.
So that they may work out an approximate budget for hiring a nanny in their area, they used our Average
Gross Salary per County - Live Out / Part time information on page 8, as a guide.
PART TIME NANNY
Dr Dale is looking for a live out, after-school nanny in the Kent area. The nanny would only be working for the family during term time, which for this family is 39
weeks of the year. During these term time weeks, they would work a total of 25 hours.
Using the Average Gross Salary per County - Live Out / Part time table on page 8, Dr Dale can see that the
average gross weekly salary was £277. If they were to times this figure by the 39 weeks that their nanny will be working, they can estimate an approximate gross
annual salary.
