What is Nanotechnology ?

“Nano Technology is the art and the science of manipulating the matter at the nanoscale”

A Nanometer is a unit of length in the metric system, equal to one billionth of meter.

Technology is the making usage and knowledge of tools, machines and techniques in Oder to solve a problem or perform a specific function .

History of nanotechnology The American physicist Richard Feynman lectured, "There's Plenty of Room at the Bottom," at an American Physical Society meeting at Caltech on December 29, 1959, which is often held to have provided inspiration for the field of nanotechnology.

• 2000 years ago- sulfide nanocrystals uses by Greeks and romans to dye hair.• 1000 yeas ago (middle ages) -gold nanoparticles of different sizes use to produce different

colors in stained glass windows .• 1974- “Nanotechnology"-taniguchi uses the tem nanotechnology for the first time.• 1981 -IBM develops scanning tunneling microscope. This microscope evolved to allow the

manipulation of individual atoms and molecules in the field of nan technology.• 1991-carbon nanotube was discovered by s.lijima.

Need of Nano technology • Allow the placement of small structures

placed with precision simplicity and low cost.

• Leads to economic grow .• enhances national security.• leads to job creation.

Carbon Nano Tubes

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are allotropes of carbon with a cylindrical nanostructure. Nanotubes have been constructed with length-to-diameter ratio of up to 132,000,000:1, significantly larger than for any other material

Use of Nanotechnology in information technology

The impact of nanotechnology on information technology revolves around two distinct areas 1) the use of nanomaterials to create smaller, faster, more efficient memory for use in computers. 2) the replacement of current computer devices for devices with computers using advanced quantum computer technology. Nanotechnology is the development and use of techniques to study physical phenomena and construct structures in the physical size range of 1-100 nanometers (nm), as well as the incorporation of these structures into applications.

NANO ROBOTS

Nanorobots (nanobots or nanoids) are typically devices ranging in size from 0.1-10 micrometers and constructed of nanoscale or molecular components. As no artificial non-biological nanorobots have so far been created, they remain a hypothetical concept at this time.

Nanotechnology in Energy

* Nanotechnologies provide the potential to enhance energy efficiency across all branches of industry and to economically leverage renewable energy production through new technological solutions and optimized production technologies. Nanotechnology innovations could impact each part of the value-added chain in the energy sector.

Advantages of Nano technology • Less pollution• low production cost • mass production in food & consumables• Technology itself• war• Electricity

Page 14: Nano technology ptp

Disadvantages of nanotechnology

• Health • Mass production • War• Privacy risks• Some studies detected possible cancer

causing properties of carbon nanotubes

Conclusion

Nanotechnology is the development and engineering of devices so small that they are measured on a molecular scale. This emerging field involves scientists from many different disciplines, including physicists, chemists, engineers, information technologists, and material scientists, as well as biologists. Nanotechnology is being applied to almost every field imaginable, including electronics, magnetics, optics, information technology, materials development and biomedicine.
