National Nanotechnology Training Workshop
On
Advanced Characterization Tech-niques and Practical Applica-
tions of Nanomaterials
National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), P.O. Box 577, Jhang Road, Faisalabad.
October 27-29, 2014
National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) was established in 1992 for state-of-the-art research in the area of life sciences. It is an affiliated center of the International Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Italy. In addition, it is serving as Center of Excellence in Biotechnology in the country for the advancement of basic and applied research in four major research areas i.e., agriculture, health, environment and indus-try. During the span of time, highly sophisticated re-search facilities have been developed in order to ac-celerate R & D activities. Some of these Hi-Tech equipments include Biolistic Gene Gun, DNA Sequenc-ers, Transmission Electron Microscope, Field Emis-sion Scanning Electron Microscope, Atomic Force Mi-croscope, GCMS, and LCMS.
One of the salient features of NIBGE is M.Phil and PhD programme through which scientific excellence is being integrated with education and training of the young researchers and this has led to the raised sci-entific stature of NIBGE. NIBGE confers M.Phil & PhD degrees through its affiliation with Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS). Besides, research facilities and expertise are available to pri-vate and public sector in terms of specialized training courses for researchers, university students and teachers.
Preface Nanotechnology is the designing and utilization of nano-materials (with size less than 100 nm), devices and systems with novel properties and functions. Nanotechnology has recently emerged as major technical theme across most of the science and engineering disciplines as modern tech-nologies are strongly intertwined by the designing of these nano-materials. National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) has established a strong infra-structure to carry out cutting edge research related with this promising field. Nanobiotechnology Group (NBT) at NIBGE is a dynamic and active group equipped with the most sophisticated, advanced & state of the art research facilities. We focus on three aspects of nanotechnology; namely synthesis, characterization and properties/applications of nanomaterials. We are immensely delighted to announce a National Nanotechnology Training Work-shop at NIBGE, to share and develop expertise in charac-terization techniques as well as practical applications of nanomaterials. Characterization techniques for nanomate-rials will include; Field Emission Scanning Electron Mi-croscopy (FESEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Zetasizer nano and other complementary techniques. The workshop will include lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on training through helpful critique and practical sessions. In addition to the lectures, each participant will take part in exercises that allow them to fabricate and characterize materials as well as practice the communication of their own research. This workshop would be immensely beneficial for scien-tific/researchers community interested in nanotech re-search in Pakistan. Course Outlines:
Concepts of Nanotechnology
Training on FESEM, AFM, Dynamic Light Scattering
(Zetasizer), Surface Area and Porosity Analyzer by
I- Practical Demonstration
II- Animations/Movies/Videos
