A HUGE THANK YOU to Nicolle de Braconier Harders and her team for organising the delicious Mothers’ Day Breakfast and amazing Mothers’ Day Stall. SPECIAL THANKS to Littlehampton Baptist for providing the delicious coffee! The day ran smoothly and the children had a lot of enjoyment in choosing something special for their Mums and Grandmas. We hope you all received a nice little surprise on Sunday morning?

Staff News We are pleased to announce that Kristen Hatty has been appointed as the ELC’s new After School Care and Vacation Care Coordinator.
She ran a dedicated ELC Vacation Care Program during the Christmas holidays and this was so well attended that the School has committed to the program being an ongoing part of the ELC service.
The April Holidays program was also very successful, receiving glowing feedback from children and parents alike.
Kristen will also be working some additional hours during the day to maintain the quality of our program whilst the ELC staff take their lunch breaks.
HCCS would like to take this opportunity to farewell Jen Dolman. Jen has decided to take an SSO position at Aldinga, much closer to her home.
Jen has been a part of our family for just over 8 years, during that time she has worked in OSHC, ELC and been a support educator at School.
Jen has been an amazing Educator. Her humour, willingness to be silly and her beautiful smile will be very missed by us all. The children have already made a huge range of ‘we miss you’ cards at OSHC that have been passed along to Jen. We wish Jen the very best on her new journey.
HCCS would like to welcome Georgia Cahillane who has been appointed the OSHC Assistant Director role.
Georgia is currently in her last semester of Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. Some families may have already had the opportunity to meet Georgia at OSHC and I am sure you will agree she is absolutely amazing, and has fit into the OSHC team perfectly.
Georgia will be working closely with Jacki Villis (OSHC Director) to learn all the behind the scenes running of OSHC, and also working directly with the children every morning and afternoon. Please make Georgia feel welcome into our beautiful community.

PARENTING FUNDAMENTALS
Recently I attended the Resilient Kids conference. One of the keynote speakers was psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg, and he talked about 9 fundamental aspects of parenting kids.
As a parent myself, I found what he shared incredibly helpful and if applied could be life changing! Over the next term I will focus on one of these aspects each week and hope that you get as much out of them as I did!
P.S – if you want to read more you can find all this in Michael Carr-Gregg’s book ‘Strictly Parenting’.
WEEK 1: Kids need Vitamin N Michael Carr-Gregg says that, ‘there is a vitamin N deficiency in this country, meaning that many parents are not saying no to their children and as a result children are often running the show.
He says, ‘while it is true that all children need to feel a strong sense of connection with their parents and to feel loved, they also need a regular dose of vitamin ‘N’ – in other words, they need to hear “No”.’
I came across an excellent interview with child development and behaviour specialist Betsy Brown Braun (you can read it in full here: http://www.themotherco.com/2015/01/how-to-say-no-to-your-kids-and-why-theyll-thank-you-later/), in which she says that ‘children are trying to figure out the extent of their reach – What are the rules of the road? What is ok and what is not ok? Does “No” sometimes mean “Yes?” They can’t figure it out unless there is a clear boundary. So, one reason that we say “No” is so the child will learn.
There are 3 peaks all children have to scale in order to grow up and function in the world and often they involve hearing the word “No”:
Tolerating disappointment Tolerating frustration Delaying gratification
Learning these will not happen if the child always gets
what he/she wants. In order to tolerate frustration you
have to be frustrated, so [as a parent] you have to give
the “No” response, however we say it, in order to teach
the child to tolerate disappointment.’
HCCS Jackets Children sizes: 4-6; 6-8; 8-10; 10-12 and 12-14 at $75 each.
Adult sizes: XS, S, M, L and XL at $80 each.

Congratulations to Kallen Kernot (Year 8) and Riley Kernot (Year 11) on being chosen to represent School Sport SA at the forthcoming School Sport Australia Swimming Championships. These Championships will be held in Hobart, Tasmania from 25 to 31 July, 2018. What a wonderful achievement!
Congratulations to Tilly (ELC) and her sister Adelaide (Year 1) who walked 4.5km in the Mothers’ Day Classic on Sunday. Both girls received a medal for their wonderful achievement! Well done girls!

A happy guest…….. When I first arrived in the Gym it looked so pretty, with a welcome sign out for everybody. I had to carry my chair in to help the MasterChef team. My table was called first to be served, and when I started eating I thought the meal was exquisite.
We ate tortillas with taco sauce and fresh salad. When I took my first bite I thought I was in heaven eating it with Jesus. When the dessert arrived I thought it looked like my Grandma’s pavlova that she makes for us. When I took my first bite it tasted sooooooooo nice! It had berry topping with whipped cream.
This first MasterChef meal was amazing, but I think my team will be even better. Isobel Edwards

Year 5 MasterChef A highlight of being in Year 5 is the opportunity to participate in MasterChef. Mrs Boucaut’s and Mr March’s classes join together and divide into 4 teams.
The teams have to work together to plan, organise and cook a meal for the students of both Year 5 classes. This happens once a term and the first one for the year took place during the last week of Term 1.
