Naptural Roots is a natural lifestyle magazine that not only celebrates natural hair, but also answers the call for a refreshing socially con-scious, information source that proves you don’t have to be extreme or militant to affect change.

By now you must be thinking what prompted this kind of publication? Naptural Roots began in the summer of 2005 and grew out of my desire to find a magazine that really addressed my hair care needs. Having been loc’d for 5 years and natural for 2 years prior to that, I just couldn’t find a magazine that really spoke to the beauty of my natural hair. I was tired of only seeing a few spreads in the popular hair magazines. I wanted a magazine that gave natural hair enthusiasts like me a voice and an outlet. And with that vision in mind, we published our very first issue in January of 2006.

What started out as just a natural hair magazine, quickly turned into something much more powerful and important. Naptural Roots isn’t just about natural hair. We focus on developing the entire natural person because we know being healthy starts on the inside.

As an entrepreneur, you know how important it is to know your customers needs as well as being able to anticipate their wants. Well at Naptural Roots, we feel the same way. We focus on bringing our readers the information they need to make the little changes that eventually turn into big, life chang-ing (and possibly even life saving) events as well as providing them with access to the products and services they want to purchase.

About the Founder and PublisherA graduate of the University of Washington, LeAnne Dolce holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Technical Communication. Having been in the field for over 10 years, her passion for communication, layout and design led her to start Akili Publishing, LLC in 2005. Akili, Swahili for intelligence, was chosen as the company name for her publishing company because it embodies one of the traits that she values most. LeAnne sincerely feels that through the intelligent application of technology, all our voices and our stories can be brought to life.
