Simple Machines

GearsFound on my bike. The gears on the bike allow you to travel at different speeds.
Found in the inside of my grandfather clock. The gears moves to transfer energy in order to keep the times going consistently.
Inclined PlanesInclined PlanesFound in my parents’ bathroom. A sink is an inclined plane because the curves are used to bring all the water towards the middle to sink down the drain.
Found on my brother’s car. A windshield is an inclined plane because it uses its angle to get rid of liquids on it (Example- water).
LeversFound in my kitchen. Knifes are levers because there is a fulcrum in the center, which is relied on to cause the cutting motion.
Found in my kitchen. A toaster is a lever because when you push it down, it lowers a wedge, which triggers a button that tells the toaster to turn on.
PulleysPulleys
Found in the hallway in my house. A shoe lace is a pulley because when you pull it through the tiny holes, you reverse the direction of the force and tighten your shoe.
Found at Prosel Park. A flag pole is a pulley because when you pull one end the opposite end rises, which is the flag.
ScrewsScrewsFound in a box in my garage. These are screws because it is what they are called and because they are used to fasten things together.
Found in my garage. Light bulbs are screws because you screw it clockwise into a light socket and counter-clockwise to unscrew it.
Wedges
Found in my garage. Saws are wedges because when you push and pull through wood or other material the saw cuts or splits it apart.
Found in my garage. Pins are a wedge because they are used to make holes in the wall to hang things. Being placed in the wall splits the wall like a wedge
Wheel and Axle
Found in my backward. The wheels and axels on inline skates allow them to support weight and roll around on hard surfaces
Found on my dad’s car. When you drive the wheels role around an axel, enabling you to drive.
Compound
Found in my kitchen. A stapler is a compound machine because it is a lever and a wedge.
Found in my kitchen. A can opener is a compound because it is a wheel and axel, a gear, a wedge, and a lever
