PRESENTED TO :Mr. Joey Glenn CabanaAUGUST 16, 2015
NARRATIVE REPORT
In line with our exploratory activity in T.L.E 10, the 31 Animal Production
learners of Buga National High School together with our school subject teacher Mr. Joey Glenn
Cabana went to CPU Farm –CPU (Central Philippine University )Research Station for Philippine
Native Chicken in Sitio Buntalan , Brgy.Poblacion ,Leon , Iloilo, last July 30 ,2015 ,Thursday at
exactly 10 o’clock a.m.
We are warmly welcomed by Mr. Froilan Cabarles-he is our guide in exploring
the farm. And it took us a minute to listen on his short lectures and given a chance to take a
glance on the different machines that are used in formulating and making feeds: the Hammer
Mill-use for grinding the oyster shells; Feed Mill-use for feed mixing; and the Pelleting
Machine-converting feeds into pellets. And we are also given a chance to saw and touch their
formulated organic chicken feeds especially the pellet feeds that they were formulated for
free-range native chicken.
We, together with Mr. Cabarles explored the 4 hectares out of 7 hectares
area of CPU Farm and saw the different kinds of native chicken especially the Darag and even
the other kinds of native chicken that they were raising. We also been able to explored and
saw the different areas where the chicken was arranged and separated by the means of
process that it was undergone and the research study area took place. We were gone in
Brooder Area where in, it is the Forester Station for Research for Determination of Chick
Quantitative Phenotypic traits associated with Growth Performance takes place. We also gone
in Grower Area were the study of Determination of the Effectiveness of VCO as Topical
Treatment for caponizing takes place. The Breeding Area was consist of 20 housing and it is
for egg-laying chickens .We found out that they were separating the healthy chickens from the
unhealthy one. And in the Laying Area, some of the laying hens have a foot disease. In all
area the housing was have a waterer that was set in the free flowing system.
Even we are walking and exploring but we even kept on asking the
different questions that kept wondering in our minds. I asked if what the ratio between the
rooster and hens was. Mr. Cabarles explained to all of us that in the Phase 1 of Breeding Area,
the ratio between the rooster and hens were 1 is to ten while in the Phase 2, the ratio was 1 is
to 7. He said that they were decreasing the number of hens while it gets older.
And after an hour of exploration, with a big smile, we gained a lot
of new learning and new discoveries. We conclude that the CPU Farm Facilities was in a high
technology that can surely help them to reach their aims to develop technologies that will
boost production and stimulate the supply chain of native chicken industry in the region
toward commercialization.
The said activity was aimed to make the learners to be observant and make
them can identify the different machines that use in poultry production. And in order for the
learners to be ready for the Senior High School exploratory.
Learners are listening attentively to the short lectures given by Mr.Froilan Cabarles.
