Since 1998, Galbiati Group has been the global
leader in the construction of multi-spindle drills
for the deep hole drilling of large parts with BTA/
STS and Gundrill systems. In order to guarantee
the highest level of quality and precision in
the machining of pieces, we have always used
only the very best boring and milling machines
available on the market. It made sense, therefore,
to design a multifunctional machine.
To the boring and milling unit we have added an
independent unit of BTA / STS and Gundrill deep
hole drilling system: this is NARWHAL, our
ultimate multifunction machine.

UNSUPErVISED CONTINUOUS mOTION mUlTIFUNCTIONal maChINE wITh CNC PrECISIONFUllY aUtomated Boring, milling and drilling.
The machine uses a cNc system with RTcp functions for dual tilting of the drilling arm and rotation of the workpiece on the rotary table. This allows you to programme machining with the head unit and rotary table in any direction, without changing the position of the source.

The table is turned by means of a double pinion gearbox, a central
rod with bearings and hydrostatic sliding block of the centre bearing
which is of a suitable size to guarantee maximum precision with large
loads, even unbalanced ones.
There is a recirculating ball screw slide guide system for the x axles.
Both axles are equipped wlth a direct measuring system.
The 9 axles of the machine are monitored at all times. The monitoring
system is equipped with a 15” TfT screen, a control panel, remote
diagnostics that alert the user in case of faults, a user memory,
network connectivity, remote control of the process, integrated pLc,
etc.
The machine is compatible with the cNc Heidenhain iTNc530 and
cNc fagor 8065 systems, among others.

Narwhal is equipped with a boring and milling
bar of exceptional power and torque. This is
made of nitrided alloy steel and is mounted with
oblique preloaded precision ball bearings.
It moves on bronze guide bushings.
The drilling spindle is made of hardened,
tempered and rectified alloy steel.
It is mounted with preloaded oblique precision
ball bearings.
The clamps of both units, used for securing
and releasing the tool holder cone with ISo 50
coupling, open and close automatically.

The technical assistance service is run by
a team at Galbiati Group that handles our
customers’ requests in direct collaboration
with the Tele-Service system. The system

The main spare parts for the various
machines are kept in stock at the warehouse
or can be ordered quickly. These are, in
particular:
• motors, axles and spindles and their drives,
optical scales, etc.
• Ball screws, bearings, seals, solenoid
valves, custom-made parts, etc.
The Galbiati Group employs qualified people
who organise courses on cNc programming
and machine use and maintenance.
The courses can be held at the offices of the
Galbiati Group or at the customer’s premises,
using the machine directly.
