NASHO’s

submission on the

Social Housing Bill

Comments by NASHO on the Draft Social

Housing Bill 2007, as Published in Government

Gazette No.30022 of 6 July 2007.

NASHO welcomes the initiative by National Government to

establish a legal framework to “ensure a viable and sustainable social housing sector, which will

also contribute to the overall functioning of the housing

sector.”

General Comments

A legal framework is needed by the social housing sector in

order to create a level of certainty and predictability for

implementing agencies to deliver larger numbers of

housing units.

General Comments

If the Bill is enhanced to better balance regulation with

support, the long title to the Bill will have to be enhanced to

include reference to support for social housing.
