Nasreddin Hodja lived in a small city named Aksehir located in the central area of Turkey . He was a man with a great sense of humor, very intelligent and he had always a rapid answer for all the questions and for all the dillemmas of his time.

According to some popular sayings in spite of having lived in the XIII century, he still lives with us through his jokes, in the words of Turkish people. His father was a religious leader named "Imam" (leader of prayers in a mosque) he has also been qualified "Kadi" ( person who delivers the religious laws).

Nasr-ed-Din means "Victory of the faith", Hodja means "Master" or “Teacher", having him to receive this degree later on.

Why does he ride the dunkey back to it?One day, when Hodja went to the mosque with

the missionaries he deceided to ride the dunkey with his back turn to the head of the dunkey. The missionaries asked:

- Why are you riding the dunkey back to it? It must be unconfortable?.

He answered:- If I turn myself to the front, you will stay on my

back .If you are in front of me, I will be behind you. I will never be in front of you . So, this is the most logical way!

One day when Hodja was a boy, he climbed on a fig tree and he stayed there eating figs . The owner of that lands caught him, so that he asked him:

- Who are you? What are you doing on my tree?- I´m a nightingale.- answered Hodja.- If you are a nightingale, let´s listen to you

singing.- answered the man. Hodja did a strange sound imitating the

nightingale.- What kind of nightingale are you?Nightingales

don´t sing like this.- said the man.- Well- said Hodja-This is a song of an inexperient

nightingale.

Some time ago, Hodja bought, for home, some meat but he had never the chance to eat it. His wife ate it and she also gave to their friends and each time Hodja asked her about the meat she said

- The cat caught it.I ran but I couldn´t pick it up . One day when his wife told him again that the

cat ate 2Kg of meat that he bought, he caught the cat and he weighed it . It weighed exactly 2 Kg. Hodja met his wife and said:

-If this is cat, so where is the meat? But if this is the meat, so where is the cat?

We read some Hodja’s stories. Some are very funny and make us to think!

We also made some stories in Hodja’s way,by using pictures that illustrate our ideas .
