2014 Annual Report
In 2014, with the help of our donors
and supporters, we expanded our
programs and reached hundreds
of children who had no access to
quality music education. Programs
that benefitted included the Willie
Mae Rock Camp for Girls in New
York and in Florida the Florida Youth
Orchestra, Art & Culture Center of
Hollywood, New World Symphony
and our own Summer Strings Camp.
In addition, we solidified our infrastructure by securing office space
and hiring our new part time Executive Director, Shanna St John.
Shanna has over 25 years’ experience working and volunteering with
non-profits at the local and national level. These additions have made
quite a difference in not only our fundraising capabilities but most
importantly in our mission awareness; ultimately increasing our
impact on the lives of the children we serve.
As we look forward to the future, Nat King Cole Generation Hope will
strive to work with others to improve the lives of children – we will
actively seek volunteers, partnerships and collaboration. Our programs
will provide not only access but the tools needed to put music in the
hands and hearts of those we serve.
Our Vision is that Nat King Cole’s unforgettable legacy insures that
future generations are given the opportunity to learn and experience
the joy of music in their lives. We are most grateful to those who have
supported our efforts and invite those who would like to make a
difference to join us in…

Casey Cole & Timolin Cole
Nat King Cole Generation Hope values
music as a critical learning tool that
keeps students engaged in school, helps
develop well-rounded individuals and
encourages skills that are vital for
success in the 21st century.
Research has proven that access to
a quality music education engages
students in the classroom and increases
graduation rates; improves early
cognitive development, math and
reading skills; enhances learning in
other core subjects; develops critical
thinking and leadership skills; and
fosters self-esteem and the ability to
work cooperatively in teams.
“Music programs are constantly in
danger of being cut from shrinking
school budgets even though they’re
proven to improve academics,”
National Center for Education Statistics.
“It is important to consider that replacing
music programs with reading or math
instruction in our nation’s school
curricula in order to boost standardized
test scores may actually lead to deficient
skills in other cognitive areas,” Nadine
Gaab, Harvard University.
“Schools with music programs
have an estimated
90.2% graduation rate and 93.9% attendance rate
compared to schools without music
education, which average
72.9% graduation and
84.9% attendance,”
- The National Association for Music Education
