Background to NATEP

NATEP : An AGP Programme

In support of the UK Aerospace Industrial Strategy for the Aerospace Sector, the Aerospace Growth Partnership (AGP) developed a National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme (NATEP) aimed particularly at small and medium sized businesses to : help them develop their own innovative

technologies Increase their ability to win new business

with higher tier companies anywhere in the world


NATEP was supported 2013-2017 by the Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative.NATEP is supported 2017-2020 by the Aerospace Technology Institute.

NATEP Project Criteria

NATEP : An ATI Programme

• Technology must have an application or potential application within civil aerospace.

• Projects comprise a supply chain technology partnership of at least 2 entities and preferably 3 or more.

• Partnerships May include University, Catapult or other Research & Technology Organisation participants but must be industrially led.

• Projects must show clear benefit technically and in creating or safeguarding jobs.

• Technology must have a clear path to exploitation through customers, System House or Prime (i.e. involve an unfunded customer/end user).

• Projects must have the objective to pull through new technology or process for use in current or future product or manufacturing process.

• Fundamental research not suitable, but wide range of Technology Readiness Levels (Usually TRL 4-7) considered, provided that a clear outcome is defined.

• Development of technologies should be in line with Aerospace Technology Institute Technology Strategy or an explanation provided of why if not.

• Preferred wider exploitation possibilities to enhance capabilities within the broader aerospace industry, as well as within other sectors including advanced manufacturing.

• Preferred in kind support expected from larger companies.

• Companies outside the UK can be involved, particularly as end users but cannot receive funding.

• Be of up to 18 months in duration

Cash grants are 50% of eligible project spend except -

Beneficiaries funded by Scottish Enterprise only:

NATEP grants of up to 50% of eligible project spend are available to SME companies located in Scotland. For Large companies operating in Scotland, NATEP grants are limited to a maximum of 40% of eligible project spend.
