2014 Year in Review

It has been a great year for NACEP! Mem-bership continues to increase, additional members have become accredited, the orga-nization has conducted workshops in several states, NACEP webinars continue to grow, and the annual conference in Chicago was our largest ever. I’d like to thank the dozens of members who are volunteering to help fuel NACEP’s growth and success.

NACEP experienced significant advance-ments in several areas in 2014, and the coming year is going to bring with it addi-tional demands on the organization. The

nation’s regional accrediting bodies are placing increased scrutiny on concurrent enrollment programs. Their focus on quality is going to drive more institutions to NACEP as they seek assistance in assuring their programs are providing the necessary learning outcomes and results.

The need to reach out to secondary and post-secondary partners to support quality standards will continue to increase. Please be prepared to share your NACEP experi-ences with others when they could benefit from NACEP’s services. The organization and its members have much to offer to institutions that are working to build their programs. Sharing NACEP’s web address or contact information will help strengthen concurrent enrollment throughout the country.

I look forward to 2015. As you’ll see in the coming pages, there were many achievements in the past year and they helped build the framework for a bright future. Please keep NACEP’s standards and services in mind as you talk with others. Together, we can strengthen quality concurrent enrollment programs and NACEP’s position as the voice of concurrent enrollment.

Best of luck to your program in 2015!

Membership

As has been the case since NACEP’s founding, membership growth has continued on an upward trajectory. NACEP had 90 new organizations be-

come members in 2014, bringing our total organizational membership to 363. Membership of secondary institu-tions almost doubled, growing from 18 institutions to 32.

We were excited to add members for the first time from Georgia, Maryland, South Dakota and West Virginia.

Thanks to a partnership with the Connecticut Board of Regents to provide technical assistance to bring Connecti-cut’s community colleges into compliance with NEASC’s accreditation requirements, Connecticut showed the most membership growth, adding 12 new members to the fold in 2014.

Colorado and Michigan, where NACEP hosted profes-sional development events this year, followed closely be-hind, adding eight new members each in 2014.

“When I started working with SUNY Broome’s Fast Forward program, my only knowledge base was from my own concurrent enrollment classes I took when I was a student. I didn’t have anyone to teach me how to run a successful program. Being a part of the NACEP network has provided me with valuable information about how to run a quality program.” - Katie McGowan Bucci, Broome Community College (NY) (Left to right) Kelly Smith, Baker College of Cadillac; Brian Pyles, Berrien

Regional Education Service Agency; and Deb Miller, Kalamazoo Regional Eduation Service Agency at the 2014 Michigan Concurrent Enrollment Conference

TESTIMONIALS...“I enjoy going to a conference that is designed to help you immediately implement ideas. This is one of the few conferences that actually deals with the exact topic that I have on my plate.”

“I was able to see that many of us who work with concurrent enrollment face the same issues, regardless of the state in which we reside.”

“I left feeling recharged!”

WASHINGTON POLICY SEMINAR

Thirty concurrent enrollment profes-sionals joined NACEP for its annual Washington Policy Seminar on May 1-2, 2014. The delegation met with key federal policymakers to learn about current policies and legislation affecting concurrent enrollment programs. In partnership with Bard College, Jobs for the Future, the Middle College National Consortium, and the KnowledgeWorks Foundation, NACEP hosted a congres-sional briefing to explain the benefits of dual and concurrent enrollment to Congressional staff and other DC-based policymakers.

Outreach

As the national voice for concur-rent enrollment, NACEP’s 2014 efforts to promote quality con-

current enrollment extended to state and federal policymakers, media and other audiences through our Washington Pol-icy Seminar, newly formed State Policy Leadership Committee, NACEP Ambas-sadors and more.

of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships.

STATE POLICY LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE

This newly formed group facilitates information sharing among state agency, system office, and other NACEP members involved in state policy development. The committee held three virtual meetings in 2014 featuring presentations from national experts as well as state leaders on specific dual and concurrent enrollment policy topics. In October, the committee held our first-ever state policy workshop with 65 attendees from 26 states, featuring speakers from the Lumina Foundation, Education Commission of the States, and representatives from three states with recent policy changes.

NACEP AMBASSADORS presented at over a dozen state and national education conferences including those hosted by the American Association of Colleges & Universities, the National Association for College Admissions Counseling, and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination).
