NAIC History & BackgroundA Tradition of Consumer Protection –

• Formed in 1871

• Voluntary organization of chief insurance regulatory officials from the 50 states, District of Columbia and five U.S. territories

• Created to address the need to coordinate regulation of multi state insurers.

• Assists the state’s in their primary objective – protecting consumers and ensuring the safety and soundness of insurance companies operating in the United States.
