Diagnostic Surveys & Constraints to Agricultural production AGRONOMIC PROBLEMS IN THE TWO VILLAGES The farmers lack knowledge of accurate measurement of fertilizer to be applied to their crops . The farmers have no knowledge on curing and cheap methods of making organic fertilizers such as compost making, green manuring, night soil, and fallow system. They lack scientific principle for effective weed control of stubborn weeds. Lack of fund to buy fertilizer and agrochemicals Lack of access to credit facilities Lack of tractor and other farm machineries Poor pricing of agricultural produce Rodent and insect pests infestation Low yield of crops 7. Agricultural Research Outreach Centres (AROC) /Adopted Villages As a Vehicle for Rural Transformation and Economic Development. 8. Summary of success story Strengthened and organized the farmers, Processors and students as a more cohesive, purposeful and result- oriented groups . Created awareness and educated the farmers on the improved practices. As a result of the above, increased yields of rice has been obtained by individual farmers that translated into increased income. The women Rice processor group has ordered for three(3) sets of processing equipments, following the training they received and the resultant high quality rice they obtained. 52. Summary of success story cond Production and delivery of specified Breeder seeds Some infrastructural facilities put in place in the course of project execution represents some form of rural development & transformation. The use of poultry manure from the Adopted Schools poultry farm is an environmental friendly practice that safeguards the resource base. The provision of sitting materials and resource books to the Adopted Schools represents some forms of advancement and development. 53.
