National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute 2016 Pediatric Skill Development Introductory Workshop

June 16-18, 2016Nationwide Children’s Hospital | Columbus, OH

Workshop OverviewThis workshop teaches basic skill-building in hypnosis as a therapeutic communication and intervention for children/teens experiencing a variety of clinical conditions. Particular focus is on management of pain, anxiety and sleep. Instructional videos and case vignettes are integral components of the presentations. Experiential learning is strongly emphasized (this workshop provides double the amount offered in most introductory hypnosis workshops).

Activities include: group exercises and supervised small group practice (typically a 6:1 trainee: faculty ratio) focused on the structure and elements of clinical hypnosis with children/teens explaining hypnosis to parents and children, and the use of self-hypnosis.

Intended AudienceLicensed Pediatricians, Pediatric Sub-Specialists, Pediatric Psychologists (PhD, MA, MS), Pediatric Nurse Practitioners/Advance Practice Nurses, Pediatric Social Workers, Pediatric OT, PT, Speech Pathologists, Child Life Professionals, Students, Residents and Fellows in programs leading to these professions.

FacultyDaniel P. Kohen, MD, FAAP, ABMH

“Dr. Dan” is a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician currently in part-time private practice of DBP, Medical Hypnosis, and Self-Regulation with Partners-in-Healing of Minneapolis. A former Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Family Medicine and Community Health, University of Minnesota;

and Director of Fellowship Training in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics in the Division of General Academic Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Kohen retired in 2013 after 35 years with the Medical School. He now devotes his time to advancing the field of Pediatric Hypnosis, through patient care, writing, and continued development of the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute (NPHTI) which he co-founded and co-Directs with Dr. Pamela Kaiser.

Pamela Kaiser, PhD, CPNP, CNS,

Dr. Kaiser, former Associate Clinical Professor, Pediatrics, University of California Medical School (San Francisco), is a globally recognized expert in combining clinical hypnosis with other self-regulation and psychotherapeutic strategies for treatment of children and teens with anxiety, stress,

somatization, medical and mind-body conditions. Her research, publications and presentations emphasize an individualized approach to these clinical issues. Over her 45-year career, Dr. Kaiser, a clinical child and adolescent psychologist, pediatric nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist and developmental specialist, has worked extensively with children & teens in various health settings, including tertiary care, primary care, subspecialty clinics and private practice. A leader in the field of pediatric hypnosis and self-regulation, Dr. Kaiser is the co-founder and co-director of the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute (NPHTI), whose faculty teach hypnosis skills development training workshops for pediatric clinicians from around the globe. For almost 30 years, she has utilized an integrative practice within a developmental and family systems framework, combining clinical hypnosis with biofeedback, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, breath retraining, and stress management techniques. An Approved Consultant, faculty and former member of the Executive Committee member of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, she has also served as faculty for the International Society of Hypnosis and the European Society of Hypnosis.

Howard Hall, PhD, PsyD

Dr. Howard Hall, Professor of Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Psychological Sciences at Case and an attending doctor at Rainbow Hospital, holds two doctorate degrees, a PhD in experimental psychology (Princeton); a PsyD (Rutgers) in clinical psychology. His BS (Delaware State University) in

Psychology, minors in Music and Philosophy. Dr. Hall is recognized worldwide as a pioneer in integrative health care for his early research and its impact on hypnosis and immune function. Dr. Hall’s latest global work is on Sufi rapid wound healing research and was featured on the National Geographic channel. His clinical integrative practice employs hypnosis, biofeedback, and mind/body/holistic approaches for patients with complex medical symptoms. He also enjoys teaching residents, interns, and fellows his unique clinical approaches. Dr. Hall is also a sports psychologist previously with the Penn State football team, currently a member of Rainbow Sports Medicine program, and has worked with Case’s men soccer team utilizing hypnosis, biofeedback and lifestyle analyses.

Adam Keating, MD

Adam Keating MD, FAAP, is a General Pediatrician and Section Head of Community Pediatrics, Cleveland Clinic Children’s in Wooster, OH. He is also Medical Director of the Longbrake Student Wellness Center at The College of Wooster. He is Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the

Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Keating has been using hypnosis as part of his general pediatric practice for over 12 years and is an American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) Approved Consultant. He has been a member of the NPHTI faculty for the last two years.

Cancellation PolicyRefunds minus 30 percent for administrative costs will be given for cancellations received in writing before June 1, 2016. After this date, no refunds will be available. Nationwide Children’s Hospital reserves the right to cancel any program listed based upon enrollment or other contributing factors. Individuals who have enrolled will be notified at least one week in advance of a cancelation. In the unlikely event the conference is cancelled, full tuition will be refunded.
