On-base lodging is $20 a night and includes: full size bed, desk, wardrobe, TV, sink with mirror, small refrigerator and a coffee maker. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to provide the student with the information and skills to meet the job performance requirements of NFPA 1041 Level I Fire and Emergency Services Instructor. Students will review General Knowledge and Skills required of all instructors. Additionally, students will study class preparation of lesson plans for delivery, A/V support, practical applications and evaluation of student progress.

This 8 Hour course is designed to provide Awareness-Level Hazardous Materials Training. It is for responders who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous materials release and will initiate a response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release. It will concentrate on detecting a hazardous situation and making the appropriate calls to secure the scene and prevent contamination.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides emergency response personnel with the information and skills needed to recognize, evaluate, and control an incident involving the release or potential release of hazardous materials. It is intended for members of hazardous materials response teams. The focus of the course is on recognizing and evaluating a hazardous materials incident, organizing the response team, protecting response personnel, identifying and using response resources, implementing basic control measures, refining decision-making skills, and protecting the environment and public. Fire suppression techniques are not part of the course. Topics that are discussed include chemical and physical properties of hazardous materials, ICS, strategy and tactics, recognition and identification of hazardous materials, direct-reading instruments, toxicology, personnel protection and safety, decontamination and sources of information. Instructional methods used are lectures, class problem-solving sessions, and exercises. Emphasis is on the hands-on use of equipment to practically apply lecture information. Class members will participate in two simulations designed to apply and test the lessons learned during the week. Participants will wear fully encapsulating suits and chemical splash gear. Individuals who are not participating in a medical surveillance program should consult their physician prior to attending this course. After completing the course, participants will be able to:

Select the appropriate personal protective equipment for responding to an incident involving hazardous materials

Use of combustible gas detectors, oxygen meters, and detector tubes to evaluate the hazards present at a hazardous materials incident

Use of confinement and containment techniques to control the release of a hazardous material

Identify the importance of an incident command system for effectively managing an incident involving hazardous materials

Develop procedures for the decontamination of emergency response personnel Use of size-up techniques to develop strategies and select the appropriate tactics for

mitigating hazardous materials incidents

This combined course reviews the NFPA 1002, Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications job performance requirements for both the pumper and water supply operators. Students will understand the responsibilities of firefighters who are assigned to drive and operate department vehicles that are equipped with a fire pump and carry water. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This class is for firefighters and driver/operators who aspire to the position of company officer; for company officers determined to remain versed in essential and innovative management, leadership, and human relations concepts; and for training officers responsible for teaching and developing officers and officer candidates. The class will discuss what it means to assume the role of company officer, along with how it relates to the department and community, and what liability and legal responsibilities attach to the position. Also discussed are some of the classic and contemporary theories of human resource management. Discussions of labor relations, budgeting, information management, and fire department communications are included. Company-level inspections, investigations, and trainings are discussed along with emergency service delivery. CONFINED SPACE RESCUE

24 Hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This class will cover 29 CFR 1910.146 Permit Required Confined Spaces and NFPA 1006, Standard for Technical Rescuer, 2008 Edition. The class will work its way through the equipment and procedures required to execute a rescue from a confined space. Vertical and horizontal spaces will be displayed and made available to execute rescues. Air quality monitoring, rope rescue, rescue tripod, basic to advanced rigging, ventilation, lock/out tag out and incident command system will all be covered as part of this course. INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM

20 Hours COURSE DESCRIPTION:

All mid-level management (Federal/State/Local/Tribal/Private Sector & Nongovernmental personnel) should take ICS-300, including: Persons serving as command staff, section chiefs, strike team leaders, task force leaders, unit leaders, division/group supervisors, branch directors, and multi-agency coordination system/emergency operations center staff.

This 24 hour course will include presentations on ICS staffing and organization, reporting and working relationships, information flow, transfer of command, how Unified Command functions in a multi-jurisdictional or multi-agency incident, resource management and interagency mission planning procurement. Students attending will participate in exercises that include implementing ICS and the completion of ICS forms. All students are required to submit copies of the prerequisites for this course prior to beginning of class. Upon successful completion of the course and written test students will receive a certificate from Kentucky Office of Homeland Security.

INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM

ADVANCED INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM - ICS -400

16 Hours COURSE DESCRIPTION:

All Federal/State/Local/Tribal/Private Sector & Non-governmental personnel should take ICS-400, including: Persons who will serve as command or general staff in an ICS organization, select department heads with multi-agency coordination system responsibilities, area commanders, emergency managers, and multi-agency coordination system/emergency operations center managers.

This 16-hour course will include presentations on command and general staff, deputies and assistants, unified command, organizational relationships between area command, unified command, multi entity coordination systems, and emergency operations centers. All students are required to submit copies of the prerequisites for this course prior to beginning of class. FIREFIGHTER SURVIVAL AND RESCUE

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Firefighter Survival –

This 8-hour class will emphasize the removal of trapped or unconscious firefighters from a burning building and self rescue techniques when the primary escape route is blocked. This is a required course for all new firefighters in Kentucky.

Firefighter Rescue –

This 8-hour class is designed to teach the student how to rescue fellow firefighters from a burning structure. This course is also required for all new firefighters in Kentucky.

The Junior Firefighter Academy is intended to bring Junior Firefighters together to train, network, and participate in skills competition. The training will be based on the 20-hours recommended in the Kentucky Fire Commission’s Junior Firefighter Program:

EMT/EMR REFRESHER

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This class will cover the requirements from the US DOT EMT-Basic Refresher as required for recertification as a National Registry EMT-Basic. This 24-hour course will also qualify as CEU’s for state recertification as an EMT-Basic. Course includes sections on Disaster Management/Mass Casualty Incidents, Airway Management, Patient Assessment, Medical/Behavioral Emergencies, Trauma, Emergency Childbirth, Pediatrics, and Ambulance Operations. This course includes the two-hour HIV/AIDS and American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR classes.

NFA – DECISION MAKING FOR INITIAL COMPANY OPERATIONS

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to develop the decision making skills needed by Company Officers (CO) to accomplish assigned tactics at structure fires. All activities and scenarios used in this course are based on structure fires. As a Company Officer with the real possibility of being the first to arrive at an incident, the CO’s initial decisions will have an impact throughout the entire incident. It is vital that they be able to make good management decisions that have a favorable impact on the eventual outcome. In addition to a possible role as the initial Incident Commander (IC), the CO may well be assigned a subordinate position within the ICS organization. CO’s need to have a clear understanding of the system, the position they are assigned, and their role in the organization if they are to function effectively and help make the system work. This course is specifically designed for newly appointed Company Officers, for firefighters who may have acting Company Officers responsibilities or who want to become a Company Officer. This course is an excellent review for experienced Company Officers.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to develop a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a Company Officer in preparing their company for incident operations. In addition, to clarify the transition from firefighter to company officer and the new roles relating to leadership and safety. This course is designed for company officers, acting company officers, or senior firefighters responsible for the management of a single fire company at an emergency incident. Those officers who are responsible for company readiness, personnel safety, and leadership as it relates to company operations.

This course is open to company officers, acting officers, or senior firefighters who command a fire company during emergency operations. Those officers who are responsible for maintaining skills and company readiness.

This class will cover the KY Fire Commission required hours for Firefighter Survival (FC10000) 8 hours, Firefighter Rescue (FC20000) 8 hours, KY Wildland Awareness (FC30000) 4 hours, KY Flashover Recognition & Survival (FC40000) 8 hours. This class will also cover 4 hours of Vehicle Fires (M0002) and 4 hours of Aircraft (W0000). This class is excellent for all new recruits and incorporates Physical Training and numerous hands-on evolutions utilizing these props: FF Survival & Rescue Trailer, Flashover Trailer, Smoke Maze Trailer, FireBlast 2 Story Burn Trailer, Helicopter and Vehicle Prop.
