Created to help groom High School students for: success on the ACT, SAT and other
standardized tests success in college freshman math/science
courses.Reinforces knowledge of Black history and
inventors.Two sections

The most important component of the programAlumni and collegiate volunteers work with PCI
students to develop math and science skills and to expand knowledge of Black inventors
Sessions continue throughout the NSBE year whether the students win in the competitions or not

All students participating in the program must complete a Pre-Assessment test
Used to track student progressSee the TMAL toolkit for a copy of this test

Progress Assessment Test
10 problem individual tests given to each member of each team (30 minutes)
Initiated at the beginning of each competition to monitor the progress of the students
Used to gauge how successful the training sessions were prior to the competition
Regional TMAL Coordinator will grade the PAT tests

Engineering Contest
Engineering problem based on a real-life situation (60 minutes)
Tests the teams’ ability to work together and use mathematics/science to solve a real-world problem

Quiz Bowl Competition
Jeopardy-style competition (2 hours) Teams compete against each other to answer
