S.BAKICI-B.ERKEK INSPIRE 2010 Kraków JUNE, 22-25 2010
What is NSDI ?
İt is aberavation of National Spatial Data Infrastructure
Consistent means to share geographic data among all users
could produce significant savings for data collection and use
and enhance decision making.
National Spatial Data Infrastructure defined as the
“technologies, policies, and people necessary to promote
sharing of geospatial data throughout all levels of
government, the private and non-profit sectors, and the
academic community.”

Lack of data
fragmentation of datasets and sources
gaps in availability
lack of harmonisation between datasets at different geographical scales and duplication of information collection.
Lack of co-ordination
across boarders
between levels of government
Lack of standards and their use
incompatible information
incompatible information systems
fragmentation of information
redundancy
Data policy restrictions
pricing, copyright, access rights, licensing policy
These problems make it difficult to identify, access and use datathat is available

Responsible Institution is GDLRC
The first step towards establishing NSDI in Turkey was
achieved in December 2004 with the study named;
“Preliminary Study on establishment of Turkish National
Geographic Information System”.
The study was completed within the scope of the project of
“e-transformation Turkey -Short Term Action Plan,
number:47 ” by the coordination of State Planning
Organization (SPO).

The second study called “Action-36: Preparatory works on
establishment of Turkish National Spatial Data Infrastructure”
Action 36 emphasized on core data, technical standards,
metadata services, institutional and legal framework.
After studies of working group a Strategy document for
NSDI_TR has been preapered and shared in a workshop.
