Baccalaureate this Sunday! This Sunday, we recognize our high school seniors. After four long years of study, they are ready to graduate and prepare for the next phase of their life. Some may choose college, others tech school, still others the military, and there are those who are not sure and will work for a time until a direction becomes clearer. Whatever the path they may choose, please pray for them, that they may always choose Christ and involve Him in all their plans.

Similarly, our 8th graders from St. Mary School graduated last week. Their path is much clearer…high school. The transition is just as real. It will be a change going from being a senior to a freshman. The change will be a cultural one as well – there will not be opportunities for Mass or religion class in the public schools. However, the one thing that our school has demonstrated, and what parents indicated in the school survey, is its excellent academics. Our teachers have worked long and hard to prepare our students for higher education. Congratulations to our 8th graders. May the Lord lead you and guide you. And may the students and teachers of St. Mary School have a restful summer.

Memorial Day: Last Monday, our city gathered for Memorial Day Mass and a light breakfast afterward. There were over 100 people who came to worship. It was good to see parishioners come together for such an important occasion. It demonstrates the unity of the Church, and our common faith that true peace is Christ Himself. For those who were interested in the book I mentioned on that day’s homily, it is called “Christ in Dachau” by Fr. John M. Lenz. It is a good read.

Housekeeping Position Open: We are looking for a person to perform cleaning duties in the Church, the Nativity House, and Rectory. It is a part-time position, approximately 8-10 hours a week. If interested and for more information, please contact Fr. Rob at the Parish Office.

Have a blessed week!

Pentecost Sunday

Jesus stood up and exclaimed, "Let anyone who thirsts come to me and drink. As Scripture says: Rivers of living water will flow from within him who believes in me." He said this in reference to the Spirit that those who came to believe in him were to receive. - Jn 7:37b-39a ************************************************************** "Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, 'Peace be with you.'" Then, he said it again. And then, "he breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'" Jesus brings peace, and he brings the Holy Spirit. Peace, in fact, is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Today, on this feast of Pentecost, we remember the dramatic outpouring of the Holy Spirit that came upon those first apostles and the peace that came along with it. But we do more than remember. We also celebrate the presence of this same Spirit in our midst. Through the sacrament of baptism, every Christian receives the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in his or her soul. Thus, the gift of peace is already ours! The question is whether or not we have really begun to appreciate and utilize this most precious gift. Like the apostles who had locked themselves up "for fear of the Jews," we too are capable of imprisoning ourselves in our own anxieties. We fret and worry about the future, about our sufferings or our disappointments, and too often let these concerns stifle the true peace that Jesus offers us. But the Church today urges us to rejoice and to step out in faith like the apostles who left their fears behind them. Peace not only alleviates our fears, it also frees us to live our faith to the fullest, to have the courage to take risks, and to leave our comfort zone for the sake of the Gospel. This is what we are called and, not only that, empowered to do. Anything less is a kind of spiritual poverty we bring upon ourselves. God has given us the gift of himself, present and available in every moment, every place, and every situation. May we recognize this most wonderful gift and give thanks with grateful hearts.

What’s Happening

The slower pace of summer is a welcome change, and these more peaceful days invite us to step back, take a deep breath, savor the moment, and take time for reflection. Taize’ Prayer does much the same thing throughout the year, inviting us once each month, to simply be in God’s presence for about three-quarters of an hour. Once again, we will gather in a candle-lit place of peace, to open ourselves to the presence of the Holy Spirit, to sing simple and beautiful music, to hear God’s Word in scripture—and in silence, to listen for God’s voice in our hearts. Come to St. Mary’s on Monday June 12 at 7:00 PM for a peaceful and enriching prayer experience.

Taize’ Prayer

The Religious Education Committee is in need of new members to serve a two-year term. The Committee meets from August to May and provides assistance to the Religious Education Coordinator.

OUR LADY OF GOOD HELP PILGRIMAGE

Please note: We need ten more to sign up in order to go on our pilgrimage! Please call Colleen to make your reservation by June 6th at 868-6386. Over 150 years ago, Our Blessed Mother appeared to young Adele Brise twice in a small rural area near Champion, Wisconsin. Our Mother’s request was simple, “Gather the children in this wild country and teach them what they should know for salvation.” Adele devoted her life to doing just that. On the ground where she met Our Blessed Mother, there is now a shrine dedicated to Her appearance to Adele, The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help. The Shrine is the only Church-approved Marian apparition site in the United States. This summer you can make a pilgrimage to the Shrine along with many of our area parishioners, and see where the apparition took place, take part in Mass and Confession and learn the history of the apparition and Adele’s work to fulfill Our Blessed Mother’s request. Of course, there is a gift shop too! Our pilgrimage to Our Lady of Good help Shrine will take place June 29, 2017, and will cost $45, which includes transportation and lunch. Lunch includes sandwich, chips, cookie & beverage. Sandwich choices are: Turkey/Cheddar wrap, Italian Sub or Turkey/Swiss on cranberry bread.
