REFLECTIONS – Christmas - Joseph found himself in a difficult position when he realized his betrothed was with child. The law said he should denounce her, but he believed that it was not the right thing to do. He decided the best course was a quiet divorce. Joseph was an upright man who always tried to do God’s will. When the Lord told him in a dream to take Mary as his wife, he did not question it. Do you always follow the letter of the law or does compassion temper your decisions? How open are you to the promptings of the Spirit? Do you ask the Lord’s help when faced with difficult decisions?

“Happy the people who know the joyful shout; in the light of your countenance, O Lord, they walk.” - Psalm 89:16 Reprinted with permission from S.T. Productions.

Nativity Mausoleum Update Our sales campaign is underway for the construction of new mausoleum crypts at Nativity of Our Lady. The new mausoleum is probably 1 year away from completion, therefore, the small number of unsold crypts that we have in current inventory will be re-served for temporary placement for caskets of fami-lies who have bought in the new mausoleum and are awaiting completion of the new facilities. We want-ed to make this information known so that you can plan accordingly for your family’s burial needs. If you would like to speak to a salesman from the Ac-me Mausoleum company, please call the church of-fice for their contact information.

Retrouvaille has a weekend coming up soon, January 20th, 21st, and 22nd in Lafayette, Louisiana. Retrouvaille is a ministry for couples in troubled marriages. Retrouvaille is French for rediscovery or reawakening. You may be more familiar with marriage encounter, which is intended to enrich good, stable marriages. Retrouvaille is more like a lifeline for troubled or broken marriages and hurting couples. It is for married couples who are anxious about their marriage, alone or distant from their partner, disillusioned or bored in their mar-riage, or who are experiencing coldness or conflict. The weekends involve intensive work on communication skills and provide the foundation for the forgiveness and trust essential for rebuilding broken marriages. The six post-sessions frame up the concepts and provide practical solutions such as a method to resolve conflicts in a way that avoids the hurts of the past. Retrouvaille is a catholic ministry that is supported by Bishop Deshotel and the Family Life Office of the Dio-cese of Lafayette. Retrouvaille encourages individual and spiritual growth and the ultimate goal is to reinstall in hurting couples the joy and satisfaction of sacramental marriage. For more information or to register for the weekend, please contact 337-873-3981 or visit our website at www.HelpOurMarriage.com

Diocesan Marriage Anniversary Mass Sunday, February 12, 2017, 2:00 PM

Sacred Heart of Jesus, New Iberia Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel will celebrate the annu-al Diocesan Marriage Anniversary Mass, honoring couples who are celebrating 25, 40, 50, 60, or more years of marr ied life. Due to the large volume of participation each year, only couples who are celebrating one of the designated anniversary years may register to be rec-ognized, and the anniversary must fall within that calendar year. No registrations are accepted at the door on the day of the Anniversary Celebration Mass. Bishop Deshotel will present all registered couples with a certificate in honor of their marriage anni-versary, and a special reception will be held imme-diately following each Mass. Friends and family members are welcome to attend the Mass and re-ception; however, reserved seating is only available for the couples being honored, while others are asked to be seated behind this reserved section.

The deadline to register is February 2, 2017 please visit the website at www.diolaf.org/marriage or call the office at 337-261-5653.

Upcoming Cenacle Retreat January 13-15, 2017

Forgotten Among the Lilies: Learning to Love Beyond Our Fears

This book, authored by Rev. Ronald Roheiser, will be our guide for this retreat. In the preface, Roheiser says, “Rarely do we taste the food we eat or the coffee we drink. Instead, we go through our days too preoccupied, too compulsive, and too dissatisfied to really be able to be present for and celebrate our lives. This book is for those who struggle to make this life, such as it is, enough.” With his wisdom, we will let the Spirit guide us in our reflection and prayer.

Presenter: Rev. Donald Blanchard. Call Aimee McHugh, one of the retreat captains, at 225-229-5788 for information about this retreat or infor-mation about any other Cenacle retreat.
