The Emir Trophies and Sword Day which took place at the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club (REC) in Doha from February 23 till March 1, 2012. We had 25 dazzling Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicles lined up for the star-studded event from February 20 till March 3 adding comfort and class to the transportation solu-tions for the entire event and its high-profile guests in addition to granting 4 Mitsubishi cars to the REC. Our veteran Qatari racer, Saddon Al Kuwari to go full-throttle at the upcoming Porsche GT3 Cup in Doha!
Vol. 5 Issue 43
A great automotive race is coming to town with the mind-blowing Porsche GT3 Race on March 2 and 3 at the Lusail International Circuit! The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East has been given a fresh boost with the news that Qatar has joined the UAE, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on the championship circuit for the very first time. The first visit by the series to Lusail International Circuit means that three Qatar-based drivers can now look forward to Porsche GT3 Cup action on their home track. Veteran Qatari driver Saddon Al Kuwari has made an impressive start to his first season of Porsche GT3 Cup racing. He has a commanding lead in the Michelin Silver Trophy standings for the intermedi-ate class and holds sixth place overall. Also contesting the series and looking for success in the bronze class Mobil 1 Trophy are Qatar-based Dutchman Rob Frijns and his Austrian team-mate Manfred Ender.
To top it off, NBKS Michelin Tyres Division will be the main sponsor for this heart-stopping event! Qatar joins a 12-round championship which has quickly estab-lished itself as a headline race series in the Middle East since being launched in December 2009. The 2011-12 season has reached the half way point following an opening two-round race weekend at Dubai Autodrome and two more at Yas Marina Cir-cuit, Abu Dhabi in November and December. Rounds 7-8 take place in Saudi Arabia at Reem International Circuit outside Riyadh on February 15-16, and the championship reaches its climax at Bahrain International Circuit on March 29-30. About 5000 VIP and 500 VVIP are expected to at-tend the 1st night of the Porsche GT3 Cup Chal-lenge Middle East in Doha so let’s all gear up to join in the fun and celebrate what is poised to be another great sporting event in Qatar!

Vol. 5 Issue 43
During my annual vacation, me and my son went for a very short 3-day trip to Hongkong and went to different tourist
spots. We did not arrange a packaged tour, Instead I arranged it for the two of us. We just rode the plane from my city to
Hongkong International Airport, quite adventurous isn’t it? The country is very accessible making it very easy even for
first-timers like me with an accompanied kid. The major mode of transportation is the train and the bus. It is way cheaper
and faster than the taxi. You need to buy your own Octopus Card for you and your kid amounting to 150HKD and
75HKD respectively in order to get a faster ride. You can reload the card each time it runs out of credit and it is refunda-
ble when returned.
We stayed at one of the cheapest accommodation/guest house with the rate from 300HKD (Hongkong Dollar) and up depending on the number of occupants and the room. It does not include breakfast, purely board and lodging only but cost-saving because you are out the whole day and will just leave your luggage and spend time to sleep only. It is located in
Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Very near to the Train Station. On our first day, we went to The Ocean Park Hong Kong. This is one of Hong Kong's favourite attractions, featuring rides, exhibits and conservation facilities.
Ocean Park is located on the south-ern side of Hong Kong Island, cover-ing more than 870,000 square metres of land. There are three attraction
pandas, red pandas, Chinese giant salamanders and Chinese alligators. We admired the spectacular display of goldfish at the 'Goldfish Treasures' exhibit. Visited the colourful birds and playful Asian small-clawed otters at the 'Panda Village'. There's also the 'Panda Kingdom Shop' for the perfect panda-inspired souvenirs and the 'Panda Café' for relaxation and re-freshments. We also experienced the joy and thrill of SkyFair, a huge helium-filled bal-loon measuring 22 metres in diame-ter which soars more than 100 me-tres into the sky.
Support animal conservation! Ocean Park Hong Kong is committed to promote and support animal con-servation in Hong Kong and through-out the Asia region wherein my son and I signed up to support the cam-paign. It has, in cooperation with oth-er conservation organisations, launched various conservation pro-grammes for a number of endan-gered species, including whales and dolphins. In addition, it has success-fully bred rare species of birds, sharks and butterflies. We were able to get the discounted ticket at the guest house where we stayed which costs as follows: Original price of Ocean Park Ticket
$280 (Adult) $140 (kids) Our discounted ticket Ticket $240 (Adult) $135 (kids)
Once on The Peak, there are a num-ber of locations providing magnificent views of the city below. For great continuous unfolding vistas, take the Peak Circle Walk or go directly to the Lugard Road Lookout for fabulous views over the harbour. There are more great vistas from the Lions View Point Pavilion and the viewing terrace at the Peak Galleria, as well as the Peak Tower Sky Terrace. Madame Tussauds Hong Kong We visited Madame Tussauds Hong Kong , open from 10am to 10pm dai-ly, for an engrossing interactive enter-tainment experience! This serves as the main entrance going up to the peak.
Tickets Adult Original price of Round Trip + Sky Terrace + Madame Tussauds $235 Our discounted price $190
At 12 noon, we went to Hong Kong Disneyland which invites visitors into the legendary fairytale kingdom that celebrates the spirit of fantasy, the world of tomorrow and a forever-young sense of adventure. Mickey Mouse will welcome you to the happi-est place on Earth complete with at-tractions exclusively designed for Hong Kong.
Vol. 5 Issue 43
At night, we went to The Avenue of Stars which fea-tures commemorative plaques, handprints of movie celebrities, descrip-tive milestones, kiosks with movie memorabilia, a tow-ering Hong Kong Film Awards statuette, and a life-size statue of the legend-ary kung-fu action star, Bruce Lee. The location on the Tsim Sha Tsui prome-nade offers incredible pan-oramic views of the famed Victoria Harbour and the memorable Hong Kong skyline. It is also a good place to watch the spectac-ular A Symphony of Lights, a nightly multimedia show
with added pyrotechnics on special occasions. On our second day, we went to The Peak, one of the most popular attrac-tions in Hong Kong: It is absolutely incredible! Looking down from The
Peak you'll be amazed by the spec-tacular view of the surrounding city skyline, the world-famous Victoria Harbour and Kowloon, towering sky-scrapers and peaceful green hillsides.
Getting there is an unforgettable trip. There's nothing in the world like the Peak Tram. Pulled by steel cables, the tram climbs 373 metres (about 1,200 feet). It's so steep that the build-ings you pass look like they're leaning at a 45°angle! Whether you're going up or coming down, you'll love this trip.
Families especially those with accom-panied kids and even lovers visiting the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort will have magical journeys through four themed lands, namely Main Street U.S.A., Fantasyland, Adven-tureland and Tomorrowland, plus two Disney-style hotels. Hong Kong Dis-neyland will offer a diverse range of food at various restaurants in the park. In addition there are specialty stores selling Disney memorabilia and souvenirs in each themed land and at the two hotels. ‘It’s a small world’ We enjoyed the Disney’s world-famous ‘it’s a small world’ takes you on a leisurely boat journey across the continents to discover a fresh child-like perspective on the world as you encounter animated singing dolls in their colourful costumes. This attrac-tion has been specially adapted for Asian audiences and with its mes-sage of mutual understanding, peace, love and friendship, the whole family is bound to be delighted with this newest Disney attraction in Hong Kong. Category Adult Child Original price of HK Disneyland $399 $285 Ticket Our discounted $370 $270 Ticket
On our third and last day of stay in the country, we paid a visit to the world's tallest, outdoor, seated bronze Buddha which sits serenely atop Ngong Ping plateau amid the spectacular mountain scenery of LantauIsland. The eyes, lips, incline of the head and even the right hand (raised to deliver a blessing to all), combine to lend great depth of character and dignity to this extraordinary statue.
The majestic figure of the seated Buddha is 34 metres high, was cast in China and took over 10 years to complete. Weighing 250 tonnes, it was unveiled in 1993 amid deeply religious ceremonies. The Ngong Ping 360 experience starts with a 25 minute cable car ride from Tung Chung to a culturally themed village high atop a mountain plateau on Lantau Island. It's here at the Ngong Ping Village, that your family can enjoy two great attrac-tions and a choice of shops and eat-eries, all on this picturesque 1.5-hectare site. Wisdom Path From Po Lin Monastery it's a short walk to the Wisdom Path, an outdoor replica of the centuries old Heart Sutra, one of the world’s best-known prayers that is revered by Confu-cians, Buddhists and Taoists alike. The sutra is displayed on wooden pillars placed in the form of a figure "∞" to symbolise the idea of immeas-urable splendour and infinity.
Buddha
We climbed the 268 steps to reach the platform where the Buddha is seated. Besides at-tracting Buddhists from all over Asia, the magnificent figure with its compelling presence almost instantly transformed the remote Po Lin Monastery with its devout monks into a must-visit on tourist schedules. The Po Lin Monastery is set amid spectacular mountain scenery on the 520-metre high Ngong Ping plateau.
It was a very quick, fun and en-joyable tour in the country with the above famous destinations. If we have a week-long stay, we could have been to Sky100, Sci-ence Museum, Museum of Histo-ry, Noah’s Ark, and even a day tour to Macau.

HR Training and Development Launches
E-Learning for English Language Skills
Why has our Head of Training & Development (HoT&D) selected Auralog for this purpose? Firstly, the license fees are extremely cost-effective for NBK when compared to the charges in Doha for classroom-based instruction. Secondly, the solution allows our staff to access it in the comfort of their own homes when they are ready and energised to do the work rather than having to attend classes at set times in a language school. How does Auralog work? End-users take an initial Placement Test which puts them in the correct level, starting at Beginner, then Intermediate, Intermediate +, Advanced, Advanced + and Business +. The solution creates a specific learning path for each user, with customized learn-ing materials according to their current English pro-ficiency level and specific industry (i.e. automotive, customer service etc). The Communication Skills of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking are de-veloped, as well as Grammar and Vocabulary through practice in 10,000 exercises. There is a to-tal of 2,000 hours worth of material for learners to access, but a minimum of 250 hours will take them from Beginner to Business +. Multiple Achievement Tests can be taken at any time and users can take one Progress Test at the end of the program. Over 15,000 companies globally and 7,000,000 learners worldwide have gone through the Auralog program.

By Lance Rooney, Head of Training & Development
NBK’s Human Resources Department (Training and De-velopment) launched a year-long E-Learning English Lan-guage Skills Development solution this month for a pilot group of 30 staff, all of whom did their end-user training via video-conferencing on February 20
th and 22
nd. Our service
provider for this program, known as Auralog, is Track Learning Solutions in Kuwait.
How can we ensure our staff actually log on to the software and do the work? The HoT&D will act as the administrator to ensure that the learners are indeed logging on to the pro-gram and doing the language development activi-ties required. The ‘Tutor Tool’ enables the adminis-trator to track how often users are accessing the program and how well they are doing in their as-signments and Achievement Tests. The tutor can then assign additional work to users in areas where they are having difficulty and also conduct group training sessions for users who are having difficulty with a particular area of their training. Since the ini-tial career of the HoT&D was in English Language teaching, he is ideally equipped to provide this lan-guage support. If this pilot group of 30 staff members provides a good Return On Investment for NBK this year, HR Training and Development will open up the program in 2013 for more of our employees since there is such a need for high levels of English proficiency both within Qatar and in the global business market as a whole.
NBK’s Human Resources Department (Training and Devel-opment) added another 8 new staff members to its pre-existing team of 14 in-house Certified Trainers this month. These employees responded to the call for in-house train-ers back in January and were then invited to attend a rigor-ous 30-minute interview with the Head of Training and De-velopment (HoT&D) to; a) establish whether they had the technical and personal competencies required to become an in-house trainer and b) determine which courses they could deliver to our staff based upon NBK’s training needs. Successful candidates then enrolled on the Train-the-Trainer program on February 5th-6th, and, two weeks later, were required to design and deliver a 30-minute training session on a business-related subject of their choice to the other course participants. Each staff member was video-recorded and received immediate verbal feedback after their session from the HoT&D, co-assessor and Certified Trainer, Ms. Jonineth Cabague, and the other trainees. So, please welcome to the Certified Training Team the fol-lowing staff members: Ms. Thea Quirino (Executive Assis-tant to the CFO), Ms. Sara Gebril (HR Officer Benefits and Compensation), Ms. Miraflor Morales (Merchandiser Con-troller, NBK Fashion), Ms. Maria Sante (Accountant, Fi-nance Dept), Mr. Ahmed Azmy (Marketing Executive, Mercedes Benz), Mr. Ahmad Firoozi (CRM Mercedes Benz), Mr. Alaa Hassan (Client Relations Specialist, Mer-cedes Benz) and Ms. Anna Yenko (SAP Technical Train-er, BIT Dept). These Certified Trainers (CTs) will enrol either on an-house or public program to gain more knowledge and skills in their area of specialization and then adapt that course by designing their own supplementary activities based upon their own knowledge, skills, work experience and related research. Before any CTs are allowed to train their special-ized courses in-house, they must then engage in frequent one-on-one Coaching sessions with the HoT&D to ensure that their training materials are unique to NBK and are of the highest standards. With this exhaustive process in place, HR Training and De-velopment is confident that our CTs will deliver the same outstanding training in 2012 as they did last year.

NBK’s Human Resources Department (Training and Development)
Presents Its March-June 2012 In-House Training Calendar
HR NEWS
For the first time in NBK’s Insider magazine, the Human Resources Department (Training and Development) presents our 3rd In-House Training Calendar March 1st-June 30th 2012. There are a total of 42 programs on offer during the period, of which 37 are different courses since some will run more than once. 1) Who will run these programs? Of the total number of 42 programs, 29 courses will be delivered by our highly skilled team of In-House Certified Trainers, 8 programs by Lance Rooney (Head of Training and Devel-opment) and 5 courses by three different external training providers. 2) What are the criteria for enrollment? Employees must be primarily selected for the programs to; a) address current under-performance in the area offered by that course and b) support talent management (i.e. em-ployees have been identified for a new position in which the knowledge and skills required are trained on the program in question). Only in isolated cases should managers nominate staff for motivational purposes or for non performance-related professional and personal development. 3) How do I enrol on the courses? a) If you are an employee without any Supervisory or Team Leader function, you cannot enrol yourself directly onto the programs, but MUST go to your direct line manager for his or her approval. If he or she believes that you do need a particular course to improve your job performance, your Supervisor or Team Leader will then get approval from his or her direct line manager and it is this level of management only who may nominate you for particular programs. Therefore, you are advised to meet with your Su-pervisor or Team Leader early on in this calendar to discuss your training needs and ensure that he or she notes them down and takes them to their line manager for approval. b) If you are a Supervisor or Team Leader, you also cannot enrol yourself directly onto the programs, but will need to meet with your direct line manager to discuss your performance-driven training needs and he or she will then secure the approval of his or direct line manager. c) If you are a company or departmental manager, you may enrol yourself directly onto the programs. However, dependent upon company/ departmental policy, you may still have to get GM or direct line manager approval for your self-nomination. d) All GMs and members of the Executive team may, of course, enrol themselves directly onto any programs. Finally, the Head of Training and Development (HoT&D) will ONLY accept nominations from the man-agement team AFTER they have received the ‘Invitation to Nominate’ e-mail for each course which will be sent out closer to program delivery unless clearly requested otherwise. 4) Do I have any obligations after I have finished the training programs? Yes. By enrolling on the courses you commit yourself to completing the assessments of competence set by the HoT&D and to submit them by the required deadlines. It is imperative that NBK measure Return On Investment for training and also maintain our ISO 9001 Accreditation status from the training perspective. Employees who reach minimum standards in the assessment items receive graded Certificates of Competence which are a valuable indicator of your new-ly developed skills for career advancement within NBK.

In The Spotlight
Sajeendran Chandran
Describe your work at NBKA? I joined NBK in 2006 so working here for more than 6 years as a Cashier has really been a great ride for me. I started working in Accounts then was transferred in 2009 to Mercedes Benz. How do you spend your weekend? I usually play crickets with my team, Qatar Fighters. It’s a group of enthusiastic players from India- all with one passion: playing crick-ets. If we are not playing ,then you can see me either in the malls or beach. How did you get into sports? Crickets is one the favorites and famous sports in India. I want to be part of something that my country is good at. You see back in College, I was already a member of the Cricket team. And when I first came here in Qatar, the first thing I did was to join a cricket team. It took me a year before I finally found my family—the Qatar Fighters. What makes you happy? I’m a simple guy...small things makes me happy already. A simple hanging out with my family and friends is enough for me to be happy. That’s why I always look forward to week-ends….that’s the time I can really enjoy the time with my friends.
Name the three most important things in your life? My Family has always been important to me. They are my life. Second is my career...NBK has given me so much opportunities and I thank the company for that. The third important thing in my life is my passion in Crickets. What’s your philosophy in life? I believe that everything happens for a reason and that God is behind all these things.
Vol. 5 Issue 43
have started playing football and winning some tourna-ments; then at the age of 15 I signed up with a Local Club starting semi-professional trainings when we won a host of titles across different tournaments! Later in 2007 I left Lebanon coming here to Qatar where I trained with some clubs for a short period of time but through limited sessions due to obligations of work which come first; now I am playing with Lebanese Embassy Football Team and I'm truly very proud of it! What’s the biggest challenge in playing football? The biggest challenge in playing football is fitness!!! you have to build great strength, take care of your diet and exercise continuously! Playing any sports requires discipline, what other characters you need to have to be a good player? In addtion to discipline, successful footballers should be Highly fit, Smart and Creative, able to come up with tac-tics on the ground and in the field during the game, Dyna-mism and Team worker, Footballer's reflexes should be pretty fast , Competitive and Improvisation, never back off and strive to do the best. Are you vain? I believe that the most character that any person should have is modesty. In football, once you begin to be vain, you will think that you are the best and you don’t need any more training than you underestimate your competitor and that’s something you should never do. No matter how good a player you are, you have to keep working on your self and improve your skills. How do you keep your body healthy and fit? Little rules to my life are keeping me healthy: First of all, an athlete should never smoke or be addicted to anything that damages the health and mind! Second, Food as a source of energy and life, eating Healthy Foods can change your life, give you energy, help you lose weight, and increase longevity! Finally, keep on doing simple stretching exercises to stay healthy and fit. What makes you happy? The small and simple things in life really! Name the 3 most important things in your life Nothing can top off my family, my health and my career. What are you missing now in your country Lebanon? I am missing my family, friends, and everything I've been used to for over 20 years. I miss my country and every thing in it! Philosophy in life? You will never achieve what you never begin...
Vol. 5 Issue 43
Describe your work at NBK Auto? I've been working for NBK Automobiles for almost 4 years and I love it! Our job is to provide government or corporate organizations and individuals with tailor-made transportation solutions based on the concept of long-term leasing and not selling. Once this is done, we move to the next most important part of our job which is the customer after-sales service What’s your daily routine? Starts with coffee!!! Then I check my emails to get on top of any recent request or update. I make sure to respond to all queries, handling any complaint if any! I also spend time researching the market and the industry for any new opportunity or information which is beneficial for our job. How do you spend your weekend? Every weekend, I try my best to relax, meet up with some friends and practice sports particularly swimming and my all-time favorite sport football! How did you get into football? When I was small kid my Father used to take me with him to watch some football match in our town, I really loved this game; then when I reached first intermediate we had 2 sports sessions per week; since that time I
Wajdi Hamra In The Spotlight
NBK Street
What do you do to get fit and healthy?
Abner Rama, Sales Supervisor from Mercedes-Benz Parts Department loves to play basketball and walk around in the corniche to inhale the fresh air coming from the sea.
Ali Khanafer , Medical Sales Engineer, NBKS Projects Promotion Medical Equipment Division While driving near Doha corniche I jealously used to watch people walking and running; three months ago I quit smoking and start walking; then after 4 weeks I was able to run for 1.5 or 2 Kilometers and since one month I can run the corniche in both ways (8.2 Kilometers); by the looks of it you will infer it is impossible but once you start you can do it.

Easy Ways to Boost Your Mood
1. Go for a walk Grab your dog, best friend, or your significant other and head out on a brisk walk. Just a little bit of exercise can boost your mood and give you a fresh perspective on prob-lems that have been bothering you. Think walks are boring? Try walking to a place that seems exciting to you. Take a trip to the mall and walk a few laps around this season’s sales, or even walk to get some frozen yogurt. Make it a fun trip and you’ll surely make it part of your routine.
2. Give it a rest DVR late-night television and head to bed earlier. Increasing your amount of sleep can reduce your stress level and leave you feeling energized to tackle your day when you wake up.
3. Thank someone Acknowledge something that someone has done for you and send a note or a small bouquet of flowers. You’ll put a smile on their face and yours.
4. Compliment a stranger Love her hair color? Dying to know where he got that awe-some hat? Tell someone that you like something that they have and you’re guaranteed to brighten their day. Seeing good things in others will help you start to see good things in yourself. Who knows, you may get an unexpected compli-ment.
5. Plan a vacation Getting bogged down with our daily routines can send us into a rut, causing us to look at things negatively. Booking a trip near or far away will give you something to look forward to, and the break from your normal routine will help you to see your life a little more clearly.
6. Buy something silly After all, laughter is the best medicine. Pick up something that makes you laugh like a funny picture, book, magazine, or a DVD of your favorite stand-up. You could even plan a date night out to a comedy club. Giving yourself time to laugh boosts feel-good endorphins.
7. Get a chair massage Ten minutes of relaxation can do wonders. Instead of eating lunch at your desk, take a walk to the local nail salon for a short chair massage. Your neck and back will thank you and you’ll feel relaxed the rest of the day.
8. Wear your favorite color Have a passion for red? Love cool blues? Wear your favor-ite color, the one that brings out your beautiful eyes, and you’ll walk a little taller and smile throughout the day.
9. Tackle a problem Boost your confidence by completing a particularly hard crossword or Sudoku puzzle. Maximizing your brain power and doing something challenging will help you to have a more confident outlook on life.
10. Model behavior Take a photo of yourself doing something you enjoy, like roller skating, skiing, swimming, playing an instrument, or being with friends and family. Place the picture on your desk to remind yourself that you lead an amazing life and have lots to be happy about.
