PROGRESSION AS A GROUPNBS Architecture has made a dramatic progression to the ArchiCAD model since the beginning of the project. Such progression has relied heavily on group collaboration and communication. Tasks completed include: •Launch of the group blog page with regular updates and discussion forums between the members for productive communication. •Modelling of the project to a respective stage whereby the drafting and remodelling has been accomplished thus leaving aesthetical and minor changes required for submission to be completed.

EVIDENCE OFCOLLABORATION

NBS strives to communicate high quality work by using each members skills

• This is most evident through the weekly group meetings conducted on Mondays at 3pm where the group attends to discuss issues, questions, queries and comments regarding the project to help overcome difficulties involved to reach our targets.

• Within our larger scale group meetings there are often informal meetings between individual members. Small partnerships have developed where boundaries between roles are crossed.

GROUP PRODUCTIVITY

Page 7: NBS ARCHITECTURE

Another significant group collaboration and communication technique that has been demonstrated is through problem solving of key issues. These include: • Group discussions to resolve reservation and update and release issues experienced by members whilst trying to progress work• Formulating timelines and project milestones for completing key tasks on time• Discussions to determine colour scheme and model themes as a group for collaborative involvement between members• Overcome the issues of launching the group website and thus teaching and educating all members in the correct use and operation of the website as it is a foreign concept to use•Due to unforseen circumstances with one member the group had to collaborate to rework the landscape design that was originally allocated to Shay. In this we decided to share the task of remodelling the mesh as a group during the Monday lesson to overcome the issue

Problems I have overcome thus far:

After joining the group late I was assigned to design an

extension for the first floor, in order to accommodate a

rumpus room or children’s play area, as well as being assigned

the role of Group Website Coordinator. Thus far I have

successfully created a rumpus room plus a modest foyer extended out the Western façade by demolishing the

existing front door and removing the Western living

room window. By collaborating with both Brendan and Laura I have been able to compliment existing fenestration with fluid and similar window sizes and layouts. I have also proposed

another extension to the group.

This renovation, to the Western first floor façade, will create a games room as well

as a dining nook while increasing my workload to a size similar to others in my

group. After passing this by the group, both via our website

and in person I began the final design.

As Website coordinator I have chosen the layout and

background for the group blog, set up categories under which information could be sent and received efficiently. With the guidance of Brendan I have created a space for general

group communication as well as a personal space for each

group member where they can post their progression each

week.

Progress so farI started gutting out the bathhouse removing all of the walls, toilets, the bathroom windows shades and the roof. I was left simply with a blank slab to work on. I began converting the bathhouse into a granny flat accordingly by:•Increasing the size of the slab to accommodate for a kitchen, bedroom, staircase, bathroom, dining area and outdoor entertaining deck area.•Adding exterior walls.•Adding a flat roof.•Adding a staircase to the granny flat and cut a hole in the slab to allow access to the top floor.•Adding folding doors to the walls opening onto a deck.•Adding a bedroom and ensuite bathroom.I then added objects and more intricate details into my granny flat design these included:•Adding a bed and side tables to the bedroom.•Shower, toilet and bathroom sink to the bathroom.•Adding a kitchenette and dining table to the dining room.•Adding a slate custom texture finish to the exterior.

PROJECT MANAGER PROGRESS As both a Project manager and Interior modeller I am in charge of managing the progression of the project and making sure members keep informed and up to date

with tasks, and offer assistance and guidance in completing tasks.

• Part of my role as a project leader is to set a range of objects and furniture as a guide/ library to be used throughout the project to keep continuation and fluidity of the design to show that our project model displayed communication between the members on our selection of themes.

• Communication has improved with the introduction of the group blog page in which daily updates of progression can be uploaded which I have been doing so and updating the group with important information from the week in my weekly minutes update. Here the members can revisit at any time the progress of the group and help answer questions they may have regarding the project.

• Facebook page is still going and working, conducting the meetings to the group every week helps to get understanding between members of the progression of project.

• Furthermore as part of a group assignment I similarly believe that my communication techniques have been very influential and effective toward all group members as all are up to date with where the project is at etc.

Page 15: NBS ARCHITECTURE

ARCHICAD MODELLERProblems had to overcome to meet this point: In this role I am required to carry out a small interior remodel as part of my model contribution. My personal progression and performance in the group project has been accomplished to all my individual deadlines.• Fix up walls and windows as

outlined in my role thus completely modelling the interior first floor as per my contract ahead of time so that I could manage the group as a project leader/project manager.

• Model furniture and interior fit outs • Colour selection, materials and

textures needed to finalise the group colour scheme. Currently looking like the grey tones/neutral colours-textures but discussions are being conducted to decide.

The remodelling of the basement is coming along quite well…So far all wall junctions have been corrected, as well as adjusting

the structure from brick cavity to solid fill which removed the recess in the wall openings.

I have also started the changes to the internal wall layout: the master bedroom area has ben started and the double room is

ready for furniture to be inserted. The slab has been straightened and extended to fit the plan of

the new layout. The stairs have been rotated to be square.

I have altered the positions of the windows as so they are not over-lapping and I have started making changes in the windows

settings. All furniture was removed, creating a blank slate that can be

fitted with objects that match the rest of the design.

The Following tasks need to be completed:• Master bedroom: - Ensuite, - WIR, - Feature Wall• Double bedroom: -Furniture placement• Adjusting/changing windows• Garden and Access to• Applying Textures• Group final 2D presentation and Fly-through• Internal Renders• Individual submission
