A. Insurance

Insurance 1. Student Safety Insurance (Accidental Insurance):

Compulsory for ALL

Apply reimbursement in Student Assistance Division, Office of

Student Affairs

Pay NTD$99 per semester

2. International Student Medical Insurance (ISMI):   For those who do not have their oversea insurance

Apply reimbursement in Office of International Affairs

Pay NTD$3,000 for the first six months

3. National Health Insurance (NHI): Compulsory for ALL

After your ARC has been issued for six months, you must have NHI

during the study in Taiwan (NT$749/month*6 months)

Pay NTD$4,494 per semester

Insurance Cases

• Having no NHI• NHI was cancelled due to changing VISA• Didn’t pay on time

Foreigners, who lost their residence status because they no longer hold a valid ARC or because they are not returning to Taiwan, will also lose their right to participate in the NHI program.

Student A suffered a brain concussion due to a car accident. He had no NHI at that time due to changing his VISA from working VISA into Student VISA, so when leaving the hospital, he paid a big amount of medical therapy fee about NT$200,000.

Student B didn’t join NCKU NHI Group and didn’t pay on time (employed / joining family). The accumulated fees made him go to the court and needed to face some responsibility.

B. Driving License

• Every year in October/ March, Office of International Affairs will take students to get their driving licenses.

Student C had no driver’s licenses and had a car accident:1. Didn’t finish his study at NCKU

2. Died after the accident

Student D had no driver’s licenses and had a car accident after drinking:1. Serious injured in the accident

2. Sued by involved opposite side

3. Paid a huge compensation

C. Tutoring Service (English Tutor)

Tutoring Service• Provided for all undergraduate students.• Register on September/ February• Basic subjects are open every semester:

– Calculus– Physics– Statistics– Accounting

• Office of Academic Affairs will announce when to apply for this service. (http://cfd-en.acad.ncku.edu.tw/bin/home.php )

D. Part-Time Work Permit

• Qualification: 1. Have studied at NCKU for ONE semester2. With an excellent academic record3. Only for the Degree Students

Please note that if you hold a job without applying for the work permit, you may be fined for NT$30,000~150,000fined for NT$30,000~150,000 or expelled expelled from Taiwanfrom Taiwan.

NCKU Distinguished International Student Scholarship

Eligibility:

1. Officially enrolled and have completed one year or more.

2. Have a good academic performance.1) Undergraduate: Must have taken at least 12

credits in the previous semester, achieved average score of 75 or above, in the top 30 % of the class ranking, and not possess any demerits on their school record.

2) Master: Have taken at least 15 credits in the previous academic year, achieved an average score of 80 or above and not possess any demerits on their school record.

1. Students who don’t have insurance, please join NCKU oversea insurance when you enroll (NT$2,000 or NT$3000).

Accident focus (NT$2,000/per semester): covers Accidental death & dismemberment, disease hospitalization, and accidental injury can apply for reimbursement after the evaluation by insurance company.

Medical treatment focus (NT$3,000/per semester): covers outpatient medical benefit, room and board benefit, miscellaneous medical expenses benefit, and daily hospitalzation benefit

2. Students who have their own oversea insurance, please submit photocopy to OIA when you enroll.

1. From Sept. 15, submit your course selection sheet to the department office.

2. Only one general courses can be selected on Sept. 15 in General Education Center.
