    The National Council of Negro Womenhas arrived in Rockdale & Newton CountiesBy NCNW Rockdale/Newton Staff Writer

    Saturday, May 11th, 2013

    What a GLORIOUS occasion, to

    witness the installation of this

    long-established organization that

    is new to the Rockdale/Newton

    region...

    As the Rockdale News states:

    A packed room of Rockdale and

    Newton residents was on hand to

    witness the chartering ceremony

    of the first ever Rockdale/Newton

    County Section of the National

    Council of Negro Women

    Saturday at the J.P. Carr

    Community Center.

    Facts: The NCNW is a 78-year-old organization of organizationsthat serves the purpose of"supporting women and youth in

    career development and

    community leadership," andfocusing on issues that affect

    African-American women andtheir families.

    This chartering event was historicfor both counties, which havenever had a local section. Thereare now more than 80 foundingmembers of the local section

    both men and women, under the leadership ofRhonda Taylor.

    Ms. Taylor is the section's first president, and

    started in the Atlanta Regional Section working on

    several committees and served as 1st Vice Presidentand Chair of several Committees upon transferringto the DeKalb Section. In all, Rhonda has been anactive member of the NCNW for over 23 years.

    The purpose of the NCNW organization is to be an"umbrella of organizations that would represent thenational and international concerns of blackwomen." The NCNW also "gives black women theopportunity to realize their goals for social justiceand human rights through united, constructiveaction."

    The Education Committee of the NCNW ofValdosta-Lowndes donated school supplies on

    May 10th to Lomax Pinevale ElementarySchool on Howell Road. This initiative was

    supported by both the education committeewithin the organization and NCNW members

    who donated school supplies & monetarycontributions to make the school supply

    Meanwhile: The DeKalb Section of theNational Council of Negro Women hosted itsSignature Tea on June 8, 12 3 p.m., atGreater Travelers Rest Baptist Church,Decatur. It was a beautiful afternoon of tea,great catering, awesome music Mr. Dancil &Miss Prudent. Let's not forget our one and onlyHank Stewart Poet II with "IT", last but no

    least the ladies of NCNW DeKalb Sectionplanned and executed their programme withfinesse. THANK YOU!
