Operators qualificationsGenerally crane operators fall into two

categories namely Mobile and/or Tower

cranes

In Ontario Mobile cranes have two Branches namely (Branch 1- 339A and 2 - 339C)

or Tower Crane Operators (339B - Branch 3)

Mobile Cranes Mobile cranes also have numerous

classifications and for this presentation the following slides will identify each one that is most common in Alberta.

1- Track crane with telescopic boom2- Track crane with lattice boom3- Rough terrain crane (RT)4- All terrain crane (AT)5- Carry deck crane

ConclusionMuch responsibility rests on the shoulders of crane operators and most of the time there are no problems with the operators ability to operate cranes. There are a lot of safety factors and considerations when crane operators are new to a site and have many lifting situations to assess. Working as a team and cooperation from each workers on site through tailboard meetings and JHA’s is important to conduct safe crane operations.
