GRADY SAMMONS

NDA: Please give us a little background on yourself.

My brother was the one that started motocross in the family but my whole family are racers. its just in my blood. I’m from

Tampa Florida and I’m 16 years old

NDA: Who would you say has had the most influence over your riding?

Definitely my family, they keep me going.

NDA: Hows racing been going for you?

Racing has been going good. I qualified at Reddick LLAQ to go to regionals for Loretta Lynn’s so I’m pumped on that.

NDA: What is motocross to you?

Motocross is my passion it means the world to me I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t ride.

NDA: Whats the meaning behind the number 258?

My brother was 528 so 258 is the same numbers, just switched up a little.

NDA: In the end, sponsors are what keep things going, who would you like to recognize?

Mom, Dad, Cahills of North Tampa, Six12 Racetech, Tampa MX, Chill MX gear, NDA Action Sports, Punch Boxing, Caltas 24/7 fitness

The Tampa MX Team has taken the facility to another level. Seems every time I make my way back out to what I call my “Home Track”, theres something new and improved. Whether its a new track layout designed by Matt, or a new structure like the Score tower or the Tampa MX Podium. You can only expect that their Top Gun Series will be better this year. Tampa MX is unique to most of Florida’s tracks, pro-viding a hard packed Supercross style coarse. Made up of bowl turns and rhythm sections that challenge the rider and makes for great racing for the spectator. NDA is very proud to say that we’ve been a part of this facility since the days of East Bay, and we see the team to more like family than just friends.

I4MX has picked up in popularity with the local race scene in Florida. Attracting not only riders, but photographers and video producers alike. Which I think is great. The I4MX crew works very hard, and it shows. Running a series around the state of Florida is no easy task. It takes a team of dedicated people that care about the success of the series as much as they care about the sport itself. Its a fun experience for the families that race the series as well. Each race holds a unique feel and location. Each track holds its value, and every event is met with a new challenge, and in most cases, a welcome change. NDA has had a great time with the series and we always look forward to the smiling faces.

Kenny Yoho and the I4MX Crew has been hard at work putting together a training and practice fa-cility, and its shaping up quickly. Already holding train-ing sessions with instructors Vince Devane, Kyle Vib-bert, AJ Meadows, and Kenny Himself. So far the turn out has be a positive and has great potential to grow.

Dade City Motocross is filled with racing history, a well oiled machine, run by a great staff that help run the events. Randy Yoho has been awesome to work with. And the talent of riders that take the field is nothing short of amazing. Watching the young riders that race at DCMX you cant help but to wonder who’s going to be the next to go pro. Dade has provided a proving ground for so many that have become house hold names in the sports of Motocross and Supercross. Local legends that to this day still influence the sport. We are proud to work with Randy and crew, and look forward to capturing great racing for years to come.

Paul FlemingHow many hats are you currently wearing in the moto industry?-Sadly not as many as I’d like, my personal favorite is my weekend warrior hat cause I love riding….Right now I work with Kenny Yoho on his I4MX series announcing the racing action and helping out with what’s needed. I started doing this after working with Kenny in 2014 on the award posters and then started calling the racing action for his winter series. Interesting fact, I’ve only announced one race before doing the winter series. About a year ago I started working with Sunshine Motocross on their website and social media stuff plus anything else that could make my home track better. I also work with Feld Entertainment doing a wide variety of things from helping take tickets, parking, security, working with sponsors, event setup and break down, and anything else that helps make the fan experience and show better. With Feld I get to work different events from Nuclear Cowboyz, Supercross, Monster Jam, and Arenacross. How long have you been involved with MX?-About 15 years, I used to catch it on TV sometimes when I was younger, but I really started to follow it in 2001 reading Motocross Action Magazines in study hall. I’d look forward to reading it front to back, over and over until the next issue came out. After that I was determined to ride so I saved up and bought my first bike a 1989 YZ125 that was in rough shape. My friends and I would ride when we got home from school and on the weekends until it was too dark to see and we would ride any time of year in the heat or in the snow it didn’t matter as long as we got to ride. I moved to Orlando in 2003 and took a little break from riding as I attended MMI and didn’t start riding again until the end of 2005. Since then it’s been a constant staple in my life and am glad for the things that it has brought me, I was lucky to meet my wife while slinging parts at Barneys. As a rider yourself, what do you love the most about the sport of MX?-There so much to love about this sport, it’s something that you can do by yourself or with others, it’s something to let you feel free and at peace, and it’s something that lets you feel like you can fly. Plus you can continuously challenge yourself and the sense of accomplishment that you get when you rail a turn perfectly or finally hit that jump or rhythm section for the first time the feeling is amazing! I’m not a so-cial butterfly but when I’m out at the track it doesn’t matter who you are I’m ready to bench race. What does your bike number mean?-While growing up I did baseball and soccer and was either number 2 or 7 so I started off with 27 but when I was racing it seemed that a lot of other racers where also running that number so while reading an article about how some pro riders run their area code to rep where there are from I thought that was pret-ty cool and made the choice to run 727. While I hear some grief from others about being “lame” it was cool racing with the 727 in Costa Rica. While I haven’t raced in a while I ran 27 at the Tampa Arenacross amateur race this year because it was a last minute decision and I could only get three 2’s and three 7’sWhat do you see yourself doing in the future?-It’s always hard telling what the future has in store. I’d like to continue working with Kenny to help make the I4MX series the best series in the state. I also have a few projects that I’m working on and would like to make happen, but it’s hard to say. Are there any thank you’s that you’d like to mention?-I want to thank my wife, Monika for putting up with my addiction to MX as well as washing my bike, boots, and gear and changing my air filters. I want to thank my family for always being supportive and being there for me. Also want to give a shout out to Scott Salkill at Hollywood Racing as he’s a consistent supporter of the sport and does a lot more than most know. I also want to thank Mika from FamilyFirst MX, Dave at WFO Action Shots, and Poidog with NDA Action Sports for coming out and capturing the sport for us and making me look fast in your pictures and videos. I’d also like to thank Colieen at Asterisk for some of the best motocross protection and customer service EVER! Also would like to thank Kenny Yoho for giving me the opportunity to announce a great series like the I4MX series.

Robert and Jahmir Scott are very passionate about the sport of motocross, not just the riding, but the bond that it can create between father and son, and the friendships that can build into family. Jahmir or Jam, is still finding his footing in the sport, and when he finally gets grounded, “watch out”. He already has a great command over his bike, and has a strong hold on his emotions, which for any young man, not as easy as it sounds. Every time he throws his leg over the bike, he’s adding a touch of experience, and building that library of decision making. Like with all of our riders we see some-thing special in them. And we are proud to have The Scott family a part of ours.
