Adametz, CEC, USN Commander of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest Captain John Adametz assumed Command of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest, and duties as Regional Engineer (N4), Navy Region Southwest, August 2015. Recent previous tours include Commander, Naval Construction Group TWO, Gulfport, Mississippi, Operations Officer, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic, Norfolk, VA, and Expeditionary Readiness Branch Head, Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C. Captain Adametz is qualified as a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer, Surface Warfare Officer, and Fleet Marine Force Officer. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a graduate of The Executive Program at the University of Virginia, a member of the Navy Acquisition Professional Community, Project Management Professional, Certified Facility Manager, Certified Energy Manager, member of the Society of American Military Engineers, and Naval Postgraduate School Executive Master of Business Administration candidate. His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit awards. Today’s luncheon speaker is CAPT John J. Adametz, CEC, USN, Commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest. Look for his biography in this newsletter. July is shaping up to be a busy month as well. On July 12 th we will have our next SPAWAR SSC/NDIA Executive Forum. These provide attendees a great opportunity to hear from and meet SSC leadership in an informal and informative venue. July will also feature our next Stone Brewery “Business After Hours” event on July 13th. This event, which takes the place of our regular luncheon, will feature a presentation by the Naval Special Warfare Command. If you haven’t registered for our annual Gold Coast event, August 23-24 at the Convention Center, now’s the time to ensure you don’t miss out on what has become the premier small business event for Navy contractors. In addition to a stellar line up of government – Navy and SBA – speakers, this year’s Gold Coast will feature matchmaking, the Twice a Citizen Awards, exhibits and workshops. Gold Coast is the place to be for both large and small business leaders; don’t miss out! Finally, you’ll note that I am the “guest contributor” to this issue of our newsletter, standing in for President Alyx Schmidt. Alyx is on maternity leave awaiting the birth of her son. Our best wishes and heartiest congratulations to Alyx and her husband Ryan as their young family grows!

Navy Gold Coast Conference 2106: Program Announcement – SeaPort-E Workshop finalized

NDIA-SD presents Sword Awards to ROTC Top Graduates: The Spring 2016 Commissioning Ceremonies for the San Diego Naval, Army, and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Units were held on 15 April, 13 May and 14 May respectively and five ROTC Top Graduate selectees from the Navy, Marine Corps, Army and Air Force were presented Sword Awards by the NDIA San Diego Chapter. CAPT Mark Johnson, USN, Commanding Officer, San Diego NROTC Unit, presented swords to the Navy and Marine Corps Top Graduate selectees during the commissioning ceremony held at Valley Field, University of San Diego Campus. Coronado City Councilman and NDIA San Diego Chairman Emeritus Michael Woiwode presented a sabre and swords to the Army and Air Force Top Graduate selectees during each of the commissioning ceremonies held aboard the USS Midway Museum. The Naval ROTC Top Graduates were Midshipman Stephanie Beaulieu and Staff Sergeant Derrick Von Lewis II. The Army ROTC Top Graduate was 2LT Mark August, and the Air Force Top Graduates were Cadet Edgar Villaruel, and Cadet Stephen Downs. Congratulations to all the awardees and over 60 newly commissioned officers!

STEM: NDIA will have the San Diego School Robotic Teams back again at Gold Coast on Wednesday August 24th - stop by and see the creative technology and talk to the students. NDIA is also sponsoring Junior Achievement tours at Gold Coast. Groups of five students will stop by several exhibitor booths to learn about our members products, services and industry. The student are ready to enter the workforce and will make great interns.
