Imbalance is a condition found when a rotating part’s mass

doesn't lie at the center of rotation. This causes a force (vibration)

at the frequency of rotation. Vibration can shorten the life of the

bearings, shafts or other components of the machine thus

deeming the machine unreliable.

Correcting imbalance is an important step in the manufacturing of

rotating components so that maximum service life for each part

can be achieved.

Many things can cause imbalance such as poor castings,

eccentric machining, poor assembly, distortion, uneven coatings,

aerodynamics and even temperature changes.
